Title:
Medical Science Liaison, Rare Disease (Central) – Ipsen Biopharmaceuticals Inc.
This field-based scientific medical expert works within Ipsen’s U.S. Medical Affairs Rare Disease team. The role engages national and regional thought leaders, investigators, and healthcare providers to exchange scientific insights, support clinical research, and facilitate both clinical trial efforts and investigator-sponsored studies.
Responsibilities- Identify, gain access to, and develop peer-to-peer relationships with regional and national thought leaders, investigators, and providers at academic and non-academic institutions and professional organizations within the assigned geography.
- Demonstrate and maintain deep scientific expertise on Ipsen products and the therapeutic area, including competitive landscape and gaps in patient care.
- Engage in ongoing scientific exchange about the science and clinical application of Ipsen’s portfolio to gather insights on current practice, treatment landscapes, and emerging data.
- Assist with Company Sponsored Studies, including investigator/site identification, site initiation visits, education to support enrollment, and feedback regarding operational management to ensure optimal site selection and performance.
- Partner with Medical Affairs and Medical Information services to ensure accurate delivery of medical and scientific information.
- Respond to on- and off-label questions with integrity, compliance, and adherence to legal, regulatory, and Ipsen guidelines, policies & procedures.
- Represent Ipsen and the U.S. Medical Affairs Team at scientific conferences, continuing medical educational events, and medical meetings.
- Respond to unsolicited requests regarding investigator-sponsored studies and support ISS submissions, initiation, and closure through appropriate internal processes.
- Lead the development and implementation of a regional territory plan.
- Train and facilitate speakers on Ipsen’s products.
- Work efficiently to enhance performance and execute local medical strategies within planned timelines.
- Engage in continuous independent learning within the therapeutic area and attend upskilling programs related to Ipsen molecules, products, disease states, and relevant business topics.
- Differentiates Ipsen as the valued scientific partner of choice through innovative initiatives, coordinated strategy, scientific communication, and patient centricity.
- Build and cultivate close working relationships with all U.S. cross-functional team members to maintain full compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Travel 50–70% within the Central Territory (Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin).
- 2–3 years of related MSL work experience required.
- Previous Rare Disease experience required.
- Excellent planning, presentation, written, and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain credible scientific relationships with top experts.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to function on a cross-functional team.
- Fundamental understanding of clinical research and regulatory environment.
- Excellent project management, collaboration, and leadership capabilities.
- Knowledge of PhRMA, OIG, and other guidelines related to compliant medical communications.
- Knowledge of rare disease customer segments and market dynamics.
- Experience with product launches and life cycle management.
- Doctoral level in the sciences required (MD, DO, PhD, PharmD, Nursing or equivalent).
- Fluent in English.
The annual base salary range for an MSL is $185,000–$215,000 USD, and for a Senior MSL is $215,000–$235,000 USD. This role is eligible for short-term and long-term incentive programs.
