ESPM is a multidisciplinary academic department in the Rausser College of Natural Resources (RCNR) on the Berkeley campus, encompassing basic and applied aspects of biological, physical and social sciences as applied to natural resources and natural resource‑based production systems. The Nelson Lab is located within this department and focuses on Indigenous archaeology, Indigenous environmental studies, settler colonialism and community‑based participatory research in California.
PositionSummary
The purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to the Nelson Lab in the Environmental Science, Policy, and Management Department. This position maintains an efficient workflow for the Nelson Lab's administrative needs, including reimbursements, Bearbuy purchases, travel and entertainment, event planning, meeting coordination, and upkeep of the lab's website/communications.

Responsibilities- Event organizing/planning and event logistics on campus.
- Purchasing via Bearbuy and Blu card/event card.
- Coordinate large, complex meetings/events for the department.
- Assist the principal investigator in researching, compiling, and preparing grant proposals.
- Track expenses, create expense reports, and manage budgeting.
- Work with research affiliates and help them through the vending process.
- Work with the PI to create, update, review, and revise the lab website to better communicate the lab's mission and goals, requiring substantive knowledge of the organization’s objectives.
- Organize/co‑coordinate meetings and take notes for the lab groups and our projects and partners.
- Schedule and calendar support.
- Monitor and respond to email from a lab SPA account, requiring thorough knowledge of the lab's research.
- Organize/manage digital files, folders, etc. for the lab.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, administrative experience, aptitude for problem solving, and data management.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Thorough knowledge of administrative procedures and processes, including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multi‑tasking, and time‑management skills.
- High school diploma and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Experience with humanities or social science research methods.
