Job DescriptionPosition:
Summer Camp Counselor (Team Leader at Galileo). You’ll be the core presence for each camper, guiding them through a safe, engaging summer experience. You’ll stay with the same group all week to create a supportive environment that prioritizes physical and emotional safety. This is a seasonal role;
Summer Camp Counselors work full-time Monday through Friday (5 days per week).
- Lead and supervise campers: supervise groups of 15+ campers weekly, creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging camp experience.
- Foster group connection through team activities, games, and daily interactions.
- Maintain a positive, supportive environment, manage camper behavior with restorative practices, and provide individual support as needed.
- Collaborate with instructors to deliver Galileo’s project-based curriculum (STEM).
- Support instructors by preparing materials and readying learning spaces.
- Support and participate in extended care programming before and after standard camp hours.
- Engage in all camp activities: plan, set up, and run daily activities with teammates.
- Lead campers during ceremonies, activities, snack, and lunch with a focus on safety and camp spirit.
- Lead and participate in camp songs, chants, and skits during opening and closing ceremonies.
- Collaborate to create joyful and memorable camp experiences.
- Provide exceptional customer service: greet campers and families warmly; follow check-in/check-out procedures; communicate with families as needed.
- Complete paid online training on innovation education and Galileo policies before camp starts.
- Attend two in-person setup and training days.
- Develop professionally through feedback, additional training, and hands-on learning guided by camp leaders.
The compensation for this position is structured as follows, with pay rates determined by tenure and location: new (first-year) staff: $19.89 per hour; returning (second-year to fifth-year) staff: $20.14 to $20.89 per hour.

- All camps operate Monday–Friday. Shifts vary by location and can start as early as 7:00 a.m. and end as late as 6:30 p.m.
- Online training and two pre-camp setup days are required; setup days may occur on weekends.
- Dates vary by location; check the Camp Finder for site-specific dates.
- Experience supervising groups of 10+ children
- At least 1 year of experience in summer camps, childcare, tutoring, coaching, or related fields
- College coursework in Education or Child Development is a plus but not required
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with urgency and enthusiasm
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus but not required
- Ability to use web-based tools on a personal device
- Ability to complete pre-camp tasks (background checks, certifications, onboarding, and online training) prior to camp
- Availability to work 8-hour shifts Monday–Friday for the duration of camp; preference for full-duration participation (4–8 weeks, location-dependent)
- Must be at least 18 years old by May 1, 2026
