About the role

As a Video Editor at Backroads, you’ll play a critical role in shaping how our Backroads trips come to life through video. With a constant influx of footage captured by guests, trip leaders, and photographers around the world, you will transform raw content into a steady stream of polished, engaging stories that inspire audiences and strengthen brand affinity. This is a hands‑on editing role focused on crafting high‑quality short‑ and mid‑form videos optimized for social media, web, You Tube and paid channels—ensuring every piece reflects the Backroads brand and resonates with our audience.

All work centers on post‑production and editing.

Responsibilities
  • Video Editing Review: organize and select from large volumes of guest, leader and staff footage across media types, including phone/UGC content and RAW mirrorless/DSLR footage.
  • Edit high‑quality short‑form and mid‑form videos for social, web, You Tube and paid media.
  • Edit RAW content into polished deliverables, including audio revision, color correction, and stabilization methods.
  • Adapt single pieces of footage into multiple platform‑specific versions.
  • Maintain Backroads’ brand voice and visual style across all video content.
  • Ensure video assets are delivered in the correct formats for each platform.
  • Asset Management:
Own the organization and maintenance of the video asset library for easy retrieval and reuse across the video & content team.
  • Develop consistent tagging and storage practices for incoming footage.
  • Ensure footage and finished assets are archived properly.
  • Collaboration & Project Management:
Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors when additional editing or production support is needed.
  • Serve as an internal point person for video content questions and needs.
  • Provide light guidance to staff contributing footage on how to capture more usable content.
  • Track projects through Jira and participate in weekly video production meetings.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience editing digital video content in a fast‑paced, content‑rich environment with concurrent deadlines.
  • Strong storytelling instincts and ability to find narratives within existing footage.
  • Experience creating content for social media, You Tube, websites and paid channels.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage large volumes of media files.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere (After Effects or motion‑graphics experience a plus, but not primary).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working cross‑functionally with marketing, social or brand teams.
  • Background in travel, outdoor, lifestyle or sports content a plus.
Work Environment

On‑site, Berkeley, CA – 4 days in‑office, 1 day work‑from‑home. No field‑production travel required.
