The Director, Creative Video
- Football is a key member of the Athletics Department's Strawberry Canyon Studios. The Director leads the conceptualization and execution of high‑impact visual assets that elevate Cal Football’s brand, define the Cal identity across sports, and amplify the brand narrative in alignment with the external strategy. The role captures the energy of live sporting events, produces access‑driven content, and develops personalized digital content for recruiting, retention of student‑athletes, and external revenue generation.

The Director works independently and proactively to pitch high‑level storytelling concepts with leadership, oversees a team of full‑time staff, and mentors students and interns to scale digital content creation. The position leverages emerging technologies such as AI to achieve speed and scale while maintaining brand guidelines.

Responsibilities Content Conceptualization & Strategic Pitching
  • Pitch high‑level storytelling concepts to Cal Athletics leadership independently and proactively.
  • Develop content calendars that align with recruiting cycles, retention goals, and revenue‑generation windows.
Multimedia Production & High‑Impact Execution
  • Lead end‑to‑end execution of visual assets, including photography, graphics, and visual design.
  • Capture the energy of live events and produce behind‑the‑scenes features that define the Cal brand for social platforms and in‑venue video boards.
Recruitment & Retention Content Specialized Delivery
  • Develop personalized digital content and templates tailored to attract elite recruits and enhance the student‑athlete experience.
  • Ensure a consistent brand narrative that supports player acquisition and internal program loyalty.
Revenue Generation
  • Produce AI‑generated personalized digital content aligned with brand standards and tailored to elite brands.
  • Build revenue streams and fan loyalty through consistent brand narrative.
Technological Innovation & AI Integration
  • Leverage emerging technologies such as Generative AI and advanced editing tools to achieve speed and scale in content production.
  • Maintain University brand guidelines while modernizing studio workflow for faster digital turnaround.
Budgeting & Strategy
  • Manage content creation budgets, track expenses, and evaluate content effectiveness via feedback and data to improve future work.
Quality Control & Post‑Campaign Analysis
  • Govern post‑design review process by analyzing feedback and performance and implementing continuous improvements.
Required Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of program activity and best practices.
  • Problem‑solving skills; multi‑task, work with frequent interruptions, and effective listening.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency with computer applications relevant to job duties.
  • Technical expertise in capturing high‑speed sports action and producing content for stadium video boards and social platforms.
  • Ability to interpret digital performance metrics (engagement, reach, conversion) to refine strategy and prove ROI.
  • Ability to pitch “big picture” concepts to executive leadership and translate them into cohesive brand narrative.
  • Skills in recruiting, training, and mentoring a large student/intern workforce while maintaining quality control.
  • Experience managing production budgets and navigating tight, deadline‑driven schedules common in collegiate athletics.
  • Ability to work independently while remaining aligned with internal teams.
  • Solution‑oriented mindset capable of integrating emerging technologies into brand guidelines without compromising quality.
  • Mastery of the Adobe Creative Cloud and cinematic camera operation.
  • Deep understanding of AI tools for automated workflows, asset scaling, and creative brainstorming and visualization.
