Responsibilities
The Associate Director Creative Video – Men’s Basketball is a key member of the Athletics Department’s Strawberry Creek Studio group and leads the conceptualization and execution of high‑impact visual assets primarily for Men’s Basketball. The role involves capturing the energy of live sporting events, producing access‑driven content, and developing personalized digital content tailored for recruiting, retention, and external revenue generation. The position requires a fast‑paced, solution‑oriented mindset to achieve brand storytelling that resonates across all Cal Athletics platforms.
- Work independently and proactively to pitch high‑level storytelling concepts with leadership and develop content calendars aligned with recruiting cycles, retention goals, and revenue‑generation windows.
- Lead the end‑to‑end execution of visual assets, including cinematic video, photography, motion graphics, and visual design, capturing the energy of live events for social platforms and in‑venue video boards.
- Develop AI‑generated personalized digital content and templates to attract elite recruits and enhance the student‑athlete experience.
- Leverage emerging technologies such as Generative AI and advanced editing tools to achieve speed and scale while maintaining brand guidelines.
- Manage content creation budgets, track expenses, and evaluate content effectiveness to improve future work.
- Govern the post‑design review process by analyzing feedback and performance, implementing continuous improvements.
- Recruit, build, and supervise a workforce of students and interns, mentoring them to produce professional‑level storytelling and ensuring a consistent brand narrative across Athletics.
- Technical expertise in capturing high‑speed sports action and producing content for stadium video boards and social platforms.
- Ability to interpret digital performance metrics (engagement, reach, conversion) to refine content strategy and prove ROI for revenue generation.
- Strong communication skills and ability to pitch large‑picture concepts to executive leadership.
- Recruiting, training, and mentoring skills for a large student/intern workforce while maintaining quality control.
- Experience managing production budgets and navigating tight, deadline‑driven schedules common in collegiate athletics.
- Independent work style aligned with internal teams, solution‑oriented mindset integrating emerging technologies.
- Mastery of Adobe Creative Cloud and cinematic camera operation.
- Deep understanding of AI tools for automated workflows, asset scaling, and creative brainstorming.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in the use of computer applications relevant to job duties.
- Knowledge of NCAA/Power 4 landscape and related recruiting cycles, NIL trends, and student‑athlete retention drivers.
- Current knowledge of and compliance with ACC and NCAA rules and standards.
The University of California, Berkeley, has a salary range of $60,000 – $90,000 for this full‑time, career position. The position is exempt, monthly‑paid, and eligible for UC Benefits.
