Position Summary

In this role, you will serve a consultative, advisory, and production role for the Educational Design and Technology (EDT) production studio. As an experienced professional in educational media, you will manage the end‑to‑end lifecycle of audiovisual course content, from initial pre‑production consultation with instructional design teams, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, to the final delivery of audiovisual course development assets.

Operating with a high degree of independence, you will ensure a consistent, professional production environment for SMEs and other stakeholders. You will apply your in‑depth knowledge of learning‑focused audiovisual design, using the appropriate tools and configurations to produce high‑fidelity instructional materials that meet the university's rigorous standards for digital pedagogy and accessibility.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a critical contributor to studio operations and course development, managing the scheduling, setup, and operation of cameras, audio equipment, lighting, and supplemental technology such as Lightboard.
  • Execute the comprehensive planning, production, and post‑production of high‑quality instructional media assets.
  • Perform regular studio equipment inventory, maintenance, and troubleshooting, coordinating with internal support departments or external vendors for repairs or refreshes to maintain a seamless production environment.
  • Review proposals to provide consultative guidance to IDs, instructors, SMEs, and stakeholders on media options to achieve effective learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with all parties to translate pedagogical intent to effective media formats and delivery approaches.
  • Maintain high AI literacy to advise and inform, staying current with AI‑driven production tools such as AI‑enhanced audio enhancement, generative b‑roll, and automated transcription to improve production quality and efficiency.
  • Develop standards, processes, and procedures to ensure consistent client service delivery.
  • Develop user documentation, process improvements, or system design requirements.
  • Coordinate special programs and projects in AV or instructional technology, including media production, teaching with technology, or web distribution.
  • Work with a wide variety of media technologies, networks, and computer hardware and software, applying appropriate solutions to non‑standard problems.
  • Maintain the studio production calendar, balancing instructor availability with EDT project deadlines to ensure timely content delivery.
  • Utilize departmental tools such as project management software to track the status of media assets from initial capture through final delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with Instructional Designers to ensure that all video and audio assets align with specific course development needs, timelines, and pedagogical goals.
  • Ensure all media output meets UC Berkeley accessibility requirements before assets are integrated into the Learning Management System (Canvas) or otherwise distributed.
  • Serve as a technical liaison for service providers (post‑production, voice‑over artists, animation) and software vendors.
  • Dedicated to Digital Asset Management (DAM), systematically organizing, storing, and retrieving media assets to ensure long‑term accessibility and data integrity.
  • Develop standards and processes to ensure consistent service delivery across the unit.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds.
  • Thorough customer service and consultative skills to identify and implement required technology solutions.
  • Understanding of media production methods and equipment, with ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property restrictions and skill to ensure media meets IP requirements.
  • Ability to assess campus or institutional needs for Edtech products and design services to meet those needs.
  • Understanding of post‑production processes, including internet‑based media distribution solutions.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
