Position Overview
Lecturer Positions
Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay the current salary scale for this position: https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). The current full-time salary range for this position is $75,301 - $199,722. Starting salary will be commensurate with highest degree, past college-level teaching experience, relevant industry experience and equity within the department.
Percent time: Lecturers: 11% - 100%
TSP: Hourly (4-40 hours per week)
The percentage of the appointment will vary, depending on the number of courses taught.
Anticipated start: Positions usually start in January, with various times throughout the summer and August. This pool will remain open until the final date to accommodate upcoming course needs and new applicants. Applicants are considered for positions as needs arise; the existence of this pool does not guarantee that a position is available.
Review timeline: Appointments for the Fall semester are usually reviewed in April and for the Spring semester in October.
Position duration: Positions may be for one semester or for the full academic year.

Position DescriptionThe Department of Nuclear Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley is generating an applicant pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach regular and Summer Session courses, should an opening arise. In addition to classroom/laboratory teaching and preparation, general duties may include: managing and mentoring graders and/or graduate student instructors (teaching assistants), holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and maintaining a course website.
We are also seeking applicants for hourly Teacher Special Programs (TSP), should an opening arise. The TSP instructor's principal responsibility will be overseeing capstone projects in the Master of Engineering (MEng) program of the Nuclear Engineering Department. This will include:
Designing and proposing capstone projects; helping match students into suitable projects; meeting with each capstone project team on a regular basis to review results, manage interpersonal aspects, and maintain efficient progress; providing critical, constructive feedback on students' written reports and oral presentations; coordinating and participating in the MS Plan II exam of each student at the end of the capstone project period.

Master's degree or equivalent international degree at the time of application.
Additional Qualifications (required At Time Of Start)
For Lecturers:
Five years of experience in industry or a research institute, or a Ph.D. or equivalent international degree by the start of the appointment.
For TSPs:
Two years of experience in industry or a research institute, or a Ph.D. or equivalent international degree by the start of the appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
Lecturer Positions:
Demonstrated excellence in teaching;
Experience teaching college-level courses; A higher-level degree and/or prior teaching experience is preferred in one of the following specializations. Specializations include, but are not limited to:
Nuclear Engineering;
Nuclear Physics, Nuclear Reactions, Nuclear Detection;
Radioactive Waste Management;
Nuclear Fuel Cycle;
Radiation Biological Effects, Dosimetry, Radiation Protection;
Radiation Transport, Reactor Physics;
Engineering Thermodynamics.
TSP Positions:
Mentoring experience in one or more of the related engineering fields/specializations or comparable experience/training. Nuclear, Mechanical, Chemistry, Physics, etc. Experience in supervising teams of researchers at the graduate level and experience working in industry and/or a research institute.
