Overview
The Youth Pastor is responsible for designing, coordinating and overseeing a comprehensive youth ministry focused on Christian faith formation, under the supervision and approval of the Senior Pastor. Programmatic components will include community/relationship building, worship, and Christian disciplines (attendance, service, and tithing). The Youth Pastor is expected to be an engaging spiritual leader and role model with comprehensive biblical knowledge and understanding.
Responsibilities- Serve as youth advocate. Educate and enlighten the congregation about the hopes, concerns and needs of the youth in the local church and community.
- Seek insights from other church leaders in planning and implementing a balanced and stimulating youth ministry.
- Research age-appropriate and inclusive resources and materials for the youth ministry programming.
- Pursue and participate in continuing education events and training opportunities about youth ministry practices.
- Recruit and train volunteers for the youth ministry, including ensuring adequate volunteer support and adult to youth ratios for activities, as required.
- Maintain accurate records of youth participation.
- Provide input, manage and accurately report use of the youth ministry budget/funds.
- Maintain timely communication with the senior pastor, church staff, and parents utilizing available resources (email, website, bulletin, newsletter, bulletin board, etc.).
- Collaborate with church staff members in a cohesive and open team environment.
- Mentor youth and provide counseling and spiritual direction that aligns with church ministry strategy and plans.
- Preach and teach biblically sound sermons and bible studies as assigned by the senior pastor.
- Provide training, development, and supervision to volunteer youth leaders and youth ministry leaders.
- Perform other ministry tasks as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job, including attendance at regularly scheduled pastoral meetings.
- As deemed appropriate, in collaboration with the senior pastor, the youth pastor can have the flexibility to adjust their schedule to accommodate approved and scheduled site visits with youth in variety of ways (i.e., attendance at extracurricular activities, classroom visits, etc.). The youth pastor may also be called upon to be present in times of crisis with a youth and their family.
Preferred 2 years of experience in youth mentoring, youth counseling, youth development, and the following job-related experience:
- Developing, organizing and effectively managing Christian youth programs.
- Effectively working with diverse groups of children, teenagers, young adults.
- Training related to:
- Christian faith formation for children, youth, and young adults
- Managing church volunteers
- Public/community relations and engagement
- Leadership
- Appropriate management of confidential information
- Program/meeting/event planning
- Coordinating youth church programs and religious and secular events and activities and compiling and/or disseminating information related to those programs, events and activities
- Excellent written and verbal communication, conflict management, and computer skills.
- Reading, interpreting, editing and/or extracting information from various sources including policies and procedures, program guidelines, manuals, reports, contacts, invoices and correspondence.
- Exegetical and hermeneutical skills for relevant, inclusive, and prophetic preaching and teaching designed for youth and young adult worshipers.
- It is the expectation that the youth pastor will exhibit a personal and growing relationship with God, and serve as a living witness and unyielding ambassador for Jesus Christ.
