Position

Summary

The Assistant Director, Transfer Evaluation serves as a transfer specialist and is a member of the transfer evaluation team. This position has some responsibility for supporting first‑year applicants in the admissions process, but is primarily responsible for admissions, recruitment, and evaluation for transfer applicants. The incumbent will have a sound working knowledge of the K‑14 education system, four‑year institutions and transfer articulation, and will support transfer students through the admissions process.

The team members sensitize and enlighten all Office of Undergraduate Admissions staff and campus colleagues to the special interests and needs of the transfer population.

Responsibilities Admissions Programs & Advising
  • Assists management in the design and implementation of admissions programs for transfer applicants.
  • Assists in the design and execution of training for transfer readers and evaluators; advises the general public individually or in groups by phone, in person, or via virtual platforms.
  • Provides information on admission policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements for all colleges, schools, and major programs.
  • Serves prospective and current applicants, continuing and returning students, parents, government officials, faculty, and staff from UC campuses and other educational institutions.
  • Provides in‑depth information on admissions requirements, prerequisite courses, program curricula, financial aid criteria, and career opportunities.
  • Supports admissions officers in advising transfer applicants.
Recruitment
  • Serves as a point of contact for all assigned schools and community colleges.
  • Represents the University of California, Berkeley at school visits, college nights, and transfer fairs as assigned.
  • Behaves in a manner that promotes goodwill on behalf of the University.
  • Plans visits, schedules, and makes presentations, interviews, and follow‑up visits.
  • Reaches out to potential applicants and provides information about higher education generally and UC Berkeley specifically.
  • Plans, manages, and implements events to enhance engagement, outreach, and yield, including campus diversity initiatives and mentoring programs.
  • Utilizes search and marketing tools and technology.
Evaluation
  • Maintains a caseload of newly admitted students and performs course‑by‑course evaluations for eligibility review and record verification.
  • Evaluates transcripts and performs course‑by‑course evaluations for transfer credits.
  • Mandates supplemental academic preparation as conditions of admission where appropriate.
  • Determines whether an applicant has met specific University/campus requirements at admission.
  • Finalizes applicants' entrance records for the University.
Advising
  • Serves as liaison between students, parents, colleges/universities, community agencies, and UC Berkeley colleges and departments.
  • Serves as Officer of the Day as assigned.
  • Provides in‑depth information on admissions requirements, prerequisite courses, program curricula, financial aid criteria, and career opportunities.
  • Assists prospective applicants with course planning.
  • Responds to general inquiries and contacts students regarding their admission to Berkeley.
Application Review
  • Serves as lead reader for the transfer reading cycle, including training and management of assigned readers.
  • Reads and scores applications for freshman and transfer admission.
