The Office of Undergraduate Admissions provides a fair opportunity for every applicant to obtain admission to the University, operates in a professional manner that ensures positive staff morale and values hard work and dedication. The team communicates and collaborates effectively, presents a coordinated effort to standardize procedures and document best practices, offer a variety of methods for professional development, and provide first‑class customer service in a cost‑effective and transparent manner.

Position

Summary

The Assistant Director, International Evaluation serves as an international specialist and is a member of the international evaluation team. This position holds some responsibility for supporting both first years and transfer applicants in the admissions process with particular attention to supporting the admissions, recruitment, and evaluation for international applicants. The incumbent will have a sound working knowledge of education systems of the world;

the ability to decipher records written in a foreign language; and the ability to assess a student’s educational background, making transfer credit judgments when necessary and then providing them with appropriate advising. The international team takes intentional steps to sensitize and enlighten all of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions staff and partners, as well as campus colleagues to the special interests and needs of the international population.

Responsibilities Admissions Programs and Advising
  • Assists management in the design and implementation of admissions programs for international applicants.
  • Assists in the design and execution of training for international readers and evaluators.
  • Advises the general public in person, by telephone, via virtual platforms, individually or through groups.
  • Provides information on admission policies/procedures, and eligibility requirements for all colleges, schools and major programs.
  • Those advised include prospective and current applicants, continuing and returning students, parents, government officials, faculty and staff from UC campuses and other educational institutions.
  • Provides in-depth information on admissions requirements/eligibility requirements, prerequisite courses, school/college programs and curricula, specific financial aid criteria, and career opportunities.
  • Supports admissions officers in advising international applicants.
Recruitment & Outreach
  • Serves as a point of contact for all assigned schools/community colleges.
  • Represents the University of California, Berkeley at school/community college/program visits, college nights/fairs, transfer days/fairs as assigned.
  • Behaves in a manner that promotes goodwill on behalf of the University.
  • Plans engagement with educators/counselors, visits to schools, schedules and makes presentations, interviews, and follow‑up visits.
  • Reaches out to potential applicants, and provides information about higher education generally and UC Berkeley specifically.
