Departmental Overview
The Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR) Department at the University of California, Berkeley is an academic department within the College of Engineering that serves students in master’s and undergraduate programs. The position serves as the primary student services advisor for IEOR undergraduate students, supporting academic advising, recruitment, admissions, financial aid, course scheduling, and ASE hiring.
Responsibilities- Academic Advising:
Identify and resolve intricate student issues such as discrimination allegations, grade disputes, and personal crises; recommend petition exceptions; facilitate new course approval through coordination with college policy bodies. - Provide deep knowledge of CoE and L&S advising policies for BS and BA (Analytics) majors, supporting the 5th‑year MS degree program and advising international students.
- Administer course scheduling, enrollment monitoring, classroom assignments, grade timelines, and course evaluations for all IEOR courses, while coordinating ASE recruitment and hiring each semester.
- Collaborate with the graduate student services team to manage curriculum planning, avoid course conflicts, and ensure compliance with campus policies.
- Prepare data and materials for the department chair and head undergraduate advisor to support ABET accreditation and other strategic reviews.
- Advise on recruitment strategies, transferability of non‑UC courses, and annual enrollment targets, working with undergraduate and graduate divisions.
- Plan and implement large‑scale student events such as commencement reception, Cal Day, open houses, and graduate recruitment activities.
- Provide guidance on student conduct policy related to AI usage, digital accessibility, visa and immigration policies, and other compliance areas.
- Recommend program improvements, advise on policy changes, and facilitate clear communication of degree requirements to mitigate over‑enrollment.
- Administer departmental awards, financial aid stipends, and block‑grant funds, ensuring budget adherence and timely disbursement.
- Offer career counseling support, advising department management on employment opportunities and placement services.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience and training.
- Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
- Project‑management skills and social perceptiveness.
- Problem‑identification and reasoning ability; capacity for original problem‑solving and persuasive communication.
- Knowledge of post‑degree employment opportunities and industry practices.
- Familiarity with university‑specific computer applications and risk‑assessment procedures.
- Strong interpersonal and multicultural competencies.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of visa and immigration policies for international students and scholars.
- Experience in monitoring and assessing people, processes, or services to drive improvements.
The position’s estimated salary range is $72,600 to $102,000 per year. This is a 100% FTE career position eligible for full benefits and paid monthly. The role is Classified as FLSA exempt.
