Position Overview

Title: Lecturer (LL.M. Legal Research and Writing)

Location: Berkeley, CA

Anticipated Start: Fall 2026 or later

Percent Time: Generally part‑time, 5–100%

Duration: One semester or full academic year, with possibility of renewal based on need.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire; visa sponsorship is not available.

Responsibilities

Instructors will serve as the sole faculty member for LL.M. Legal Research and Writing, a two‑unit course designed for foreign‑trained LL.M. students. Core duties include:

  • Preparing course materials and lesson plans (use of provided PowerPoint templates and exercises).
  • Delivering in‑person instruction once weekly for 110 minutes during the fall semester.
  • Providing extensive written feedback on student assignments and grading students on a standardized curve.
  • Holding one hour of office hours per week and meeting individually with students at least once during the semester (in‑person or via Zoom).
  • Attending faculty meetings and utilizing training and support provided by the Director of LL.M. LRW.

The course typically enrolls ~12 students per section. No teaching assistant is assigned.

Qualifications

Basic (required at application)

  • J.D. or equivalent international degree, or LL.M. or equivalent international degree.

Additional (required at start)

  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in the United States in legal practice, judicial clerkship, or law school teaching.
  • Availability to teach in‑person during required law school class times.

Preferred

  • Legal practice experience in the United States.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills (English).
  • Demonstrated or potential for excellent teaching in legal research and writing.
  • Commitment to inclusive curriculum and supportive classroom environment for all students.
