Position title: Lecturer
Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay current full-time salary range for this position is $70,977 to $75,301; salary is commensurate with teaching experience. See the following table for the current salary scale for this position: UCOP Salary Tables.
Percent time: 11% to 100% Appointments are non-tenured and are typically part‑time and can range from 11 percent to 100 percent, depending on the number of courses taught.

The use of a lecturer pool does not guarantee that an open position exists.
Anticipated start: As soon as Summer 2026 (date depends on which summer session), August 1, 2026 (Fall 2026), January 1, 2027 (Spring 2027), or Summer 2027 (date depends on which summer session)
Review timeline: The Department reviews applications for Fall teaching in July and August, and applications for Spring teaching in November and December, and for the Summer in March (if applicable).

Position descriptionThe department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures at the University of California, Berkeley, invites application for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers to teach courses in Arabic, Person, Turkish, Ottoman Turkish, Hebrew, Biblical Hebrew, Cuneiform, Hittite, Ancient Egyptian, Sumerian, Akkadian, Nubian and general Middle Eastern cultures should the need arise during Summer 2026, Fall 2026, Spring and Summer 2027.
Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to): teaching one or more sections of a lecture course (or courses) and attending all lectures; advising students and holding regular office hours; assigning grades; preparing course materials; and maintaining a course website.
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Basic qualifications (required at time of application):
Advanced degree (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in an advanced degree (or equivalent international degree) program.
Preferred qualifications
:
- MA degree (or equivalent international degree) in relevant fields of language and literature, cultures or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in teaching relevant field of Middle Eastern culture, preferably in a college or university setting.
