Student Services Advisor and Program Coordinator
Position within the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) at UC Berkeley. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Affairs, this role provides comprehensive academic advising, recruitment and admissions support, policy guidance, program oversight, and professional development for students pursuing EECS, CDSS, Computer Science, and ECE majors.
Responsibilities- Academic Advising (40%): provide advanced student services, recommend petition exceptions, advise students on degree completion, resolve registration issues, conduct degree audits, manage grievances, and coordinate with campus offices.
- Recruitment and Admissions (25%): advise on outreach strategies, evaluate transcripts, coordinate recruitment visits, assist with admission decisions, and serve as liaison for articulation agreements.
- Policies (20%): advise faculty on academic and student conduct policies, analyze consequences, recommend changes, support committees, and interpret campus policies.
- Program Oversight (10%): manage CS Honors, CS Minor, faculty advising, and Reader Hiring; administer CS minor program; support policy formulation.
- Professional Development (5%): participate in committees and maintain knowledge of student affairs trends.
- Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
- Knowledge of university applications, risk assessment, and procedures.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills with multicultural competencies.
- Experience with visa and immigration policies for international students.
- Problem‑solving, persuasion, and leadership abilities.
- Skills in monitoring and improving people, processes, or services.
- Understanding of post‑degree employment opportunities in the field.
- Project management skills and social perceptiveness.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.
The estimated salary range for this position is $74,700–$103,800 per year. This role is covered by the UAW collective bargaining agreement.
