Class Purpose

Under administrative direction, plans, organizes and directs operations, activities, departments, and programs within the assigned division. Coordinates and directs communications, information, resources, and personnel to meet the instructional and student support needs of the College and enhances the educational effectiveness of assigned division; supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned faculty and classified personnel.

Examples Of Duties

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Consult with faculty, staff, and administrators to coordinate and support instructional and student services programs and scheduling; recommend and implement improvements aligned with district goals, collective bargaining agreements, accreditation standards, and institutional priorities.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, schedules, and operational plans to support effective and compliant operations.
  • Plan, develop, and administer assigned budgets and financial resources; monitor expenditures, analyze fiscal data, prepare reports, pursue grants and external funding opportunities, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Direct personnel and administrative activities, including recruitment, supervision, evaluation, training, scheduling, and workflow coordination; oversee contracts, purchasing, facilities, records, and related operational functions.
  • Lead strategic planning, program development, assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives; analyze operational and student success data to improve effectiveness, efficiency, and service delivery.
  • Ensure proper and timely resolution of student, staff, faculty, administrative, department, program and related issues, complaints, and conflicts.
  • Represent the College locally, regionally, statewide, and nationally at conferences, seminars and special events as assigned;
  • Coordinate, develop, and conduct training and professional development activities, and orientations concerning assigned academic programs and departments as required;.
  • Maintain and employ current knowledge of educational trends, innovations and practices, and local, State, and federal programs, laws, codes, regulations and pending legislature related to assigned departments, programs and activities;
  • Encourage and assist faculty in developing new curriculum and maintaining current curriculum to enhance enrollment, student completion, and success
  • Serve as a liaison with students, faculty, staff, administrators, community partners, and external agencies;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a Master's Degree required from an accredited college or university.
  • One (1) year of formal training, and comprehensive and increasingly responsible leadership experience in education, or a related field.
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of Peralta Colleges' students, faculty, staff and community.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Three (3) years of experience reasonably related to the administrator's assignment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of:
    Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and statistical databases. (Example: Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.
  • District, college, division, and department policies and procedures related to the area of assignment.
  • General needs and behavior of students.
  • General technical skills and instructional procedures and equipment.
  • Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment, including computers and a variety of software and database management applications.
  • Project management.
  • The education process, instruction, role of faculty, curriculum, student services, student learning outcomes and accreditation.
  • The subject matter of the field to which assigned, including detailed knowledge and understanding of the curriculum.
Skills:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of drafting complex reports, correspondence, and presentations for senior leadership.
  • Formulating procedures and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Leadership and management experience for multiple project activities and tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and oversee multiple complex projects and deadlines concurrently.
  • Training, directing, supervising, and evaluating the work of others.
Ability to:
  • Analyze current and historical statistical data and develop sound, logical conclusions and recommendations.
  • Communicate in English (speaking, writing, and reading) at a level to safely and effectively perform the essential functions of the classification, including but not limited to making presentations to large and small groups.
