Summer Lecturer Pool – Digital Humanities Division of Arts and Humanities Position Overview

Salary range:
The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay  the following table for the current salary scale for this position: https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). A reasonable salary estimate for full‑time Lecturer positions is $70,977 - $82,284.

Percent time:
Summer Sessions Lecturers are appointed at 11% in part‑time positions that are weighed at 50%. Lecturers can teach more than one course at a time.

Anticipated start:
Summer appointments begin in the last week of May and run into mid‑August.

Review timeline:
Typically, the Division reviews applications for summer teaching in February/March. Applicants are considered for positions as needs arise; the existence of this pool does not guarantee that a position is available.

Position duration:
Summer Sessions (6‑weeks).

Position Description

The Division of Arts and Humanities at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a pool of outstanding lecturers to teach Digital Humanities using data science tools to teach online courses in the Digital Humanities Summer Minor.

In addition to instruction, general duties include holding office hours, developing syllabi and assignments, writing and grading exams, and grading and commenting on papers. Other duties may be assigned as necessary. Please see our website for more information on the currently taught online courses.

Specifically, we are looking for lecturers for the following courses in our program:

  • DIGHUM 100:
    Theory and Method in the Digital Humanities
  • DIGHUM 101:
    Python Programming for Digital Humanities
  • DIGHUM 160:
    Critical Digital Humanities
  • Course In Development:
    Ethical AI and the Digital Humanities

The incumbent can draw on our existing syllabi and materials for these courses or develop and propose their own.

Qualifications Basic qualifications

Master's degree (or equivalent degree).

Preferred Qualifications

Topics vary, and a background in digital humanities and the relevant field is strongly preferred. College‑level teaching experience in the relevant field is also preferred.
