Associate or Full Professor – Plant Ecology, Evolution and Systematics – Integrative Biology & Director – UC Berkeley Herbaria

We invite applications for a joint appointment as Associate or Full Professor in Plant Ecology, Evolution and/or Systematics in the Department of Integrative Biology and the Director of the UC Berkeley Herbaria, including the University Herbarium and the Jepson Herbarium. The faculty appointment is tenured, while the directorship is for an initial five‑year term with possible renewal.

• Develop and sustain an innovative, integrative, and internationally recognized research program in plant ecology, evolution, and systematics, with a broad scope that may include systematics, phylogenetics, ecology, population genetics, conservation biology, ecophysiology, biodiversity informatics, and evolutionary biology.
• Leverage the extensive physical collections, digital resources, and bioinformatics initiatives of the Herbaria to advance research.
• Provide intellectual and administrative leadership for the Herbaria, including stewardship and growth of collections, support for research, education, and public outreach, and development of digital and informatics resources.
• Oversee a diverse staff of ten professionals spanning collections management, research support, biodiversity informatics, education, and administration.
• Engage in institutional advancement and external relations, securing extramural support through competitive grants, philanthropy, and donor engagement to sustain and expand the Herbaria’s programs and infrastructure.
• Demonstrate a commitment to effectiveness and inclusion in teaching and mentorship, and to shared governance and service.

• Basic qualifications (required at application): PhD degree (or equivalent international degree).
• Additional qualifications (required at start): Minimum of 5 years of independent research experience (excluding PhD and postdoctoral work) and at least 3 years of teaching experience in a higher education environment.
• Preferred qualifications: Demonstrated commitment to collection‑based comparative research, Herbaria growth, development, fundraising, and administration.
