Registered Behavior Technician

Basic Function

Under the direct supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), assist in the development and implementation of behavior intervention programs for students with challenging behavioral needs at various district sites, monitor and collect behavior data, document progress, and collaborate with school staff to coach and implement interventions.

• Assist with implementation and monitoring of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and skill acquisition programs under BCBA guidance.
• Read and interpret essential components of Behavior Intervention Plans and individualized education programs related to behavior.
• Provide modeling and training to teachers and instructional assistants on how to implement Behavior Plans.
• Describe behavior functions and appropriate reactive strategies for staff.
• Model scenarios across environments.
• Assist staff in implementing reactive procedures for problem behavior.
• Effectively communicate with team members.
• Assist BCBA with observations and data collection for assessments.
• Collect and monitor ongoing behavior data and samples.
• Assist teachers and staff on behavior data collection measures.
• Assist BCBA in analyzing and interpreting data.
• Provide feedback to case managers/teachers about interventions.
• Educate staff on Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) skills, principles, and evidence-based practices.
• Travel to multiple sites as necessary.
• Assist in identification, implementation, and monitoring of positive reinforcement strategies.
• Work with students individually and in groups on specific instructional and behavior goals.
• Intervene in emergency situations that may cause harm.
• Participate in ongoing related training as required and provided by the school district.
• Assist classroom teacher in reinforcing classroom and school-wide expectations.
• Assist students with personal hygiene, eating activities, toileting, and diaper changes as required.
• Maintain health and safety of students by following health and safety practices.
• Assist students in developing independent living and self‑help skills such as shopping, money management, cleaning, and related activities.
• Assist students in developing social, vocational, and job‑searching skills as assigned.
• Escort students during the regular duty day and to designated locations, field trips, recreational therapy, social events, outdoor activities, and district-sponsored events; may ride school buses.
• Perform additional related tasks assigned by BCBA and/or supervisor.

• Knowledge of ABA and experience in developing and evaluating ABA‑based programs.
• Understanding of characteristics of a wide range of disabilities including autism, intellectual disability, emotional disturbance, and ADHD.
• Guidance principles and practices for students with special needs; training and modeling techniques for instructional staff.
• Familiarity with basic subjects taught in local schools.
• Basic instructional methods and techniques.
• Excellent English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
• Knowledge of classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct; safe practices in classroom and playground activities.
• Ability to operate standard office and classroom equipment, including computer skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and professionalism.
• Basic record‑keeping and report preparation; ability to serve students with disabilities in inclusion settings.

• Demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematical skills.
• Understand needs of special education students and relate to learning situations.
• Establish and maintain accurate records and files; develop comprehensive reports.
• Maintain confidentiality and security of specified records and information.
• Exercise tact, patience, courtesy, and good judgment with students and support staff.
