Associate Director, The Strauch Cleantech to Market Program (C2M) (5258C), Haas Centers and Institut

Position Summary:

The Associate Director for the Strauch Cleantech to Market (C2M) program collaborates closely with the C2M Director to manage and evolve one of the nation's leading climate tech accelerators and experiential graduate-level courses. The role includes co‑leading program strategy and operations, supporting curriculum development and delivery, engaging with entrepreneurs and industry partners, contributing to fundraising and partnership development, and expanding C2M's network of mentors, coaches, and advisors.

Responsibilities
  • Startup/Technology Selection:
    Work with representatives from the innovation ecosystem to identify, solicit, screen, and select promising climate tech startups for student teams. Evaluate 60-90 targeted applicants annually to identify semi‑finalists and finalists, leading to up to eight selected technologies.
  • Fall Course:
    Co‑develop and deliver the fall semester course with C2M lecturers Brian Steel and Alex Luce. Contribute to lecture delivery, guest speaker selection, and overall course design. Arrange relevant guest speakers, coordinate a lunch series, meet with entrepreneurs and student teams, coach teams, and recommend community members for informational interviews and written sources.
  • Coaching and Technical Support:
    Coach student teams on identifying applications, first markets, stakeholders, and challenges. Perform techno‑economic analyses, search and assess market data, contact potential licensees, work with founders on technical improvements, produce roadmaps, conduct market studies, develop business plans, prepare for summit presentations, and review final reports.
  • Student Recruitment & Team Formation:
    Use communications and social media channels to host information sessions, reach out to graduate programs, build interdisciplinary teams of up to six students, communicate team outcomes and next steps, and support the selection process.
  • Industry Ecosystem Engagement:
    Expand and refine C2M's community of coaches, mentors, and subject matter experts. Build relationships with industry partners, incubators, research labs, universities, and startups. Develop and manage an advisory committee and co‑host periodic meetings.
  • Program Funding & Budgeting:
    Lead efforts to secure and sustain funding. Work with the C2M Director and Energy Institute Associate Director to set annual budget, review financial reports, and ensure the program stays within budget and meets financial goals.
  • Curriculum & Program Development:
    Contribute to ongoing refinement of curriculum, teaching materials, and program structure.
  • Professional Learning and Growth:
    Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging. Exemplify Haas' four Defining Leadership Principles.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    Work with the C2M Director to assess effectiveness and recommend changes to procedures, schedule, and content. Represent the program at institute, school, and university meetings.
Required Qualifications
  • Professional experience in emerging technologies and early‑stage technology commercialization.
  • Relationships with corporations, venture capital firms, accelerators, government entities, national labs, consulting firms, and startups within climate tech sectors.
  • Coaching and/or teaching experience, ideally at university or corporate level.
  • Demonstrated thoroughness and attention to detail.
  • Strategic and tactical thinking capabilities.
  • Experience in market research, financial analysis, supply chain management, or manufacturing.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills, including experience in white papers and slide presentations.
  • Advanced analytical thinking, qualitative and quantitative.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with diverse groups.
  • Experience leading diverse teams.
  • Fundraising experience, including donor outreach, sponsorship, grant application, and relationship management.
