Position description

The College of Letters & Science at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a lecturer to teach L&S 110:
Brilliance of Berkeley. L&S 110 is a course that offers new Berkeley students, first-year admits and transfer admits, an opportunity to appreciate the range of rich academic experiences that make studying at Berkeley worthwhile. Each week, students will hear guest lectures from luminary Berkeley faculty from diverse colleges and schools. The course enrolls students in-person and online-synchronous; students who choose to register online watch the lectures synchronously at the same time as the in person students on Fridays for a 2-hour block.

Teaching L&S 110 includes working with guest speakers around their student engagement activities; opening and closing each class session to provide continuity throughout the term; facilitating Q&A and in class and out-of-class activities (e.g. polling, group reflective responses); managing communications over bCourses; and supervising the undergraduate readers. In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, preparing course materials, and maintaining a course website.

The instructor of record for this course is a senate faculty member but the lecturer will serve as the primary point of contact for all aspects of the course. The guest lecturer schedule will be organized and confirmed by a staff member who will support the course which already has an established syllabus and a menu of in-class and out-of-class activities in place.
