Position: Senior Civil Engineer/ Project Manager

What You Will Do

GFT is seeking a Senior Project Manager / Principal Engineer (Civil) to support a variety of projects in the West Region and nationwide. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Berkeley office.

What

You'll Be Challenged To Do

This position will include civil engineering design for a variety of projects, including site development, utilities, rail, storm water management and road/trail design projects. The candidate will be responsible for pursuing and executing work. The successful candidate will have a diverse project background with extensive experience and capable to lead multi‑discipline projects. This position has a hybrid work environment.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
  • Organizes and develops project team to execute specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, project design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and project inspection. Must be able to delegate.
  • Technical Lead - Preparation of conceptual design and construction documents using Microstation/Geopak/Open Roads and AutoCAD/Civil 3D, and preparation of investigative design reports and studies.
  • Supervise the work of junior staff as well as maintain a hands‑on role in the production of deliverables.
  • Shows understanding of project team management, develops project scope of work, estimating manpower needs, prepare project schedules, and tracks project progress.
  • Project coordination with in‑house engineering, architects, environmental/planning and outside consultants.
  • Reviews project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Assures the project meets quality control and quality assurance guidelines.
  • Trains/Mentors junior staff.
What You Bring To Our Firm
  • At least 15 years of professional experience on a diverse range of projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required.
  • Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, and various engineering software systems.
  • AutoCAD and/or Micro Station.
  • Locally Located.

What We Prefer You Bring
  • Licensed Engineer with 15‑20 years of professional experience on a diverse range of projects.
  • Design experience for site development projects and construction administration strongly preferred.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Software expertise in:
    Civil 3D, Geo Pak/Open Roads, Bluebeam.
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast‑paced setting.
  • Seller/Doer – Develops and presents proposals to clients as well as executes the projects once received.
  • Located locally.
  • Experience/interest in mentoring, supervisory role and/or team leader role.
  • Experience with federal projects is a plus.
  • Experience with railroad CAD standards (UPRR, BNSF, etc.) is a plus.
Compensation

The Salary range for this position is $156,000‑$210,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
