Job Summary

Biomedical engineer plans, trains, installs, maintains, and repairs sophisticated medical equipment and systems used for the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Perform all phases of scheduled and corrective repairs of biomedical equipment and medical systems under the supervision of a manager or designee.
  • Conduct pre‑issue and asset accounting, and perform equipment installation and de‑installation as needed.
  • Carry out scheduled and unscheduled inspections, maintenance, and electrical safety tests to maintain code compliance.
  • Document the results of all inspections, maintenance, and tests in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with other biomedical engineer specialties (Instrumentation, X‑Ray, CT/MR, Diagnostic Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Clinical Laboratory, RT/Anesthesia, Ophthalmology/Lasers, Clinical Systems Integrations), KPIT, business partners, and OEM representatives.
  • Travel frequently for Shared Services/Support biomed engineers; occasiona­lly for Stationary Service Area Support biomed engineers; attend technical training; perform after‑hours and on‑call service as assigned.
  • Use supplied communication devices and keep them on during duty hours.
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum four (4) years of formal and/or on‑the‑job training experience.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Driver’s License (California).
Additional Requirements
  • Good driving record.
  • Experience and working knowledge of medical equipment and systems in general instrumentation or the specialty area assigned.
  • Willingness to work extended hours.
  • Proficiency operating PCs with Windows operating systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent in electronics, physics, or related science preferred.
