What You Will Do
GFT is seeking a Senior Project Manager / Principal Engineer (Civil) to support a variety of projects in the West Region and nationwide. The role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Berkeley office.
As a member of the Transportation team, you will engage in transformative projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and improve community connectivity. You will work on planning, design, and construction administration of public and private site development projects, rail projects, and road/trail projects, applying resilient, sustainable design and construction principles to deliver innovative, safe, efficient, and reliable solutions.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Organizing and developing project teams to execute specific project phases, such as technical studies, design, specification preparation, and inspections, while delegating tasks.
- Acting as technical lead, preparing conceptual design and construction documents using Micro Station, Geo Pak/Open Roads, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, and investigative design reports.
- Supervising junior staff and maintaining a hands‑on role in deliverable production.
- Managing project scope, estimating manpower, preparing schedules, and tracking progress.
- Coordinating with in‑house engineering, architects, environmental/planning consultants, and outside consultants.
- Reviewing designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
- Ensuring quality control and quality assurance standards are met.
- Training and mentoring junior staff.
What You Bring To Our Firm
- At least 15 years of professional experience on a diverse range of projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer registration.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and engineering software such as AutoCAD and/or Micro Station.
- Locally located.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- 15–20 years of professional experience as a licensed engineer.
- Design experience for site development projects and construction administration.
- Project Management experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Software expertise in Civil 3D, Geo Pak/Open Roads, and Bluebeam.
- Strong work ethic and ability to handle multiple projects in a fast‑paced setting.
- Ability to develop and present proposals to clients and execute projects.
- Experience/interest in mentoring and supervisory roles.
- Interest in federal projects and railroad CAD standards (UPRR, BNSF, etc.) a plus.
Salary range: $156,000–$210,000, dependent on experience and geographic location.
