Position Summary
The City of Berkeley is seeking PE-licensed candidates passionate about improving infrastructure for a more sustainable and resilient city. As an Associate Civil Engineer, you will apply your knowledge and experience toward creating and maintaining state-of-the-art infrastructure, amenities, and facilities.
ResponsibilitiesWhen assigned to Public Works, you will contribute to exciting new projects across the City, including large mixed-use buildings in downtown Berkeley and UC Berkeley projects that require review for impacts to public right-of-way. Other assignments include construction management and inspection, buildings/facilities, and streets.
When assigned to the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department, you will function as a project leader for capital projects with an emphasis on engineering design. Capital improvement teams are responsible for coordinating stakeholders and managing contracts to prepare projects for bidding and construction.
QualificationsYou should have completed a four-year college or university majoring in civil engineering and have three years of professional engineering experience in design and construction work at a level equivalent to an Assistant Civil Engineer. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college coursework on a year-for-year basis.
Other requirements include possession of a valid California registration as a professional civil engineer and possession of a valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

The examination process may include application review for minimum qualifications and required documents, competitive review of education, training and experience, and written, oral or other exercises assessing content, typing, math, reading, writing, analytical skills, problem-solving ability, computer and software proficiency, or other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. Applicants who pass all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment-eligible list that hiring departments will use for final selection interviews.
