Service Tool Design Engineer
Pay up to $80-$100/hr (DOE)

6 Months
- The scope of your work will include electro‑mechanical system design, prototyping, and integration of large field service tools to be used in harsh outdoor environments.
- One key tool from this project will need to raise and lower heavy components while standing on uneven terrain and transload the components from the lift‑system.
- Design material handling equipment used for lifting, moving, and servicing modules and other components in the field.
- Perform hands‑on prototyping of designs and collaborate with broader teams to build integrated units.
- Work with vendors and field service engineers to transition designs from the prototype stage to a hardened and weatherized field service tool.
- Perform testing, hand calculations, and FEA to inform specs and future design direction.
- Release designs consistent with company and team best practices (drawings, tolerance analysis, etc.).
- Document system designs, usage guidelines, and validation procedures.
- Support troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement of field service tools.
- Possible travel up to 20% to other offices or vendor site.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or structural engineering or related field and 10+ years industry experience in mechanical design.
- Experience leading design work for complex mechanical systems and structural design, using FEA for structural analysis.
- Experience in electro‑mechanical system integration, including motors (stepper, servo, or linear), actuators, and drive systems into fixtures.
- Advanced understanding of mechanical power transmission, motion control, gear ratios, and torque calculation is a plus.
- Proficiency in CAD, specifically Solid Works, NX, AutoCAD. Knowledge in Human CAD or Siemens Jack is a plus.
- Proficiency in ANSYS, Solid Works Simulation, or Sim Scale.
- Proficient with prototyping techniques and working in a machine shop environment.
- Sense of urgency and self‑driven to hit difficult schedule targets.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills, with the ability to balance speed, rigor, and safety.
