Mechanical Engineer – Mechanical Designer (6-12 week project)
This role focuses on the mechanical design and development of a fire suppression system for a battery energy storage system (BESS) product release. You will create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings of system components and assemblies using Solid Works, ensuring that designs meet product, safety, and manufacturing requirements. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams, support design documentation, and contribute to the successful release of the system into production.
Responsibilities- Develop detailed 3D CAD models in Solid Works for fire suppression system components and assemblies.
- Create precise 2D drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and specifications suitable for manufacturing.
- Design and integrate enclosures, doors, and passthroughs for piping and wiring within the overall system architecture.
- Design internal and external piping systems, including valves, nozzles, and related components.
- Integrate clean agent cylinders and release modules into the overall mechanical layout.
- Design mounting provisions for components, HVAC systems, and harnesses to ensure secure and serviceable installations.
- Integrate detection hardware such as temperature sensors, horns, and manual release assemblies into the system design.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to refine designs, incorporate feedback, and resolve design issues.
- Ensure all designs meet product performance requirements, safety considerations, and manufacturing constraints.
- Support the creation, documentation, and release of complete design packages for production, quoting, and assembly.
- Work within established engineering review and revision processes to manage design changes and maintain configuration control.
- Proficiency in Solid Works CAD for both 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
- Experience designing mechanical systems and assemblies from concept through detailed design.
- Strong understanding of piping design, enclosures, and mechanical component integration.
- Ability to produce detailed manufacturing drawings, including appropriate tolerances and specifications.
- Experience working within formal engineering review, approval, and revision control processes.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams and communicate design intent clearly.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with fire suppression systems or other safety‑critical mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of battery energy storage systems (BESS) or similar large‑scale infrastructure systems.
- Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems for CAD file and revision management (such as PDMS or similar tools).
You will work in a design‑focused engineering environment that emphasizes precision, safety, and manufacturability. The role centers on using Solid Works and PDM/PLM tools to develop and manage 3D models and 2D drawings for production. You will collaborate closely with other engineers, participate in design reviews, and support the release of complete design packages for manufacturing, quoting, and assembly. The environment supports structured engineering processes, documentation standards, and cross‑functional collaboration to deliver reliable fire suppression solutions for battery energy storage applications.
