The Mechanical Engineering team focuses on designing the battery cell, module, and full pack system for our innovative utility‑scale multi‑day energy storage system. We are hiring a hands‑on Staff Mechanical Design Engineer to own the design of subsystems within our air delivery and management system.

This role involves product architecture, detailed design, first‑of‑a‑kind build activities, system verification, and design for cost. You will build and verify analytical models, lead prototyping efforts, and collaborate with compliance engineers to achieve system safety certification.

• Architect, design, prototype, and test the air delivery system to meet critical performance requirements.
• Build and maintain air delivery flow system models to inform design architecture decisions.
• Fabricate and test first‑of‑a‑kind prototypes to validate system design choices.
• Consider ways to design the product for high‑volume manufacturing and reduce product cost.
• Lead critical vendor engagements and collaborate with manufacturing engineers to transition system designs from prototype to high‑volume production.
• Collaborate with the Electrical and Controls teams to optimize actuator and sensor integration.
• Mentor junior engineers and level up our mechanical engineering best practices.
• Champion safety, especially in the development of new laboratory processes.

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field;
  Bachelor's with 8+ years of industry experience in mechanical design of equipment, liquid or gas handling systems.
• Understanding of first‑principles fluids modeling and experience optimizing designs for manufacturing and cost‑down.
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment or with contract manufacturing vendors.
• Demonstrated experience optimizing mechanical design, fluid flow networks, and interdisciplinary interfaces of fluid systems.
• Sense of urgency and self‑driven to hit difficult schedule targets.
• Direct experience in product development within an early‑stage environment ramping into production.
