Role DescriptionForm Energy is hiring a Senior Mechanical Test Engineer to own mechanical qualification strategy, including shock, vibration, seismic, structural load, thermal cycling, and environmental testing, for our iron-air battery systems and structures. You'll define test strategy and standards selection, lead complex test programs, drive root-cause resolution on failures, and correlate physical results with structural simulation as the team's technical authority. You'll also represent Form Energy with external test labs and certification bodies while mentoring other engineers in the test organization.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape critical qualification programs while contributing to the scaling of breakthrough battery technology. Relocation assistance is available.
- Define and own the mechanical qualification test strategy across Form Energy's battery systems, modules, and structural assemblies, including shock, vibration, seismic, structural load, thermal cycling, and environmental testing, selecting and justifying applicable standards (e.g., MIL-STD-810, IEC, UL, ASTM, etc.).
- Design complex test programs and specify custom fixtures for large-format, high-mass test articles.
- Lead root-cause investigations on test failures, partnering with design, structural, and reliability engineering to drive corrective action and design improvements.
- Correlate physical test results with FEA/modal analysis predictions, working closely with structural engineering to close the loop between simulation and test.
- Represent Form Energy in interactions with third-party test labs, certification bodies, and qualification agencies, while developing and improving internal test procedures, work instructions, and lab safety practices.
- Own capital equipment planning for the mechanical test lab, mentor level I/II Test Engineers and technicians, and present test results and qualification status to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
- 4+ years of experience in mechanical test engineering, with a track record of owning qualification programs from planning through certification (battery or energy systems experience is a plus); BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
- Deep familiarity with relevant standards (MIL-STD-810, IEC, UL, ASTM, or similar) and the judgment to select and adapt them for novel product applications.
- Strong background in structural dynamics and mechanical test methods, including modal analysis, resonance search and dwell, random vibration,…
