Job Title:
Test Equipment Design Engineer, Electrical
Location:
Berkeley, CA 94702
Pay Rate:
Up to $75.18/hr. (DOE)
- Full lifecycle PCBA design: requirements generation, component selection, schematic & layout development, design release through vendor DFM, bring up, verification, configuration management, sustaining.
- Ensure PCBA designs meet safety, reliability, and compliance standards for high‑power and hazardous systems.
- Create requirements, DFMEA/CFMEA, electrical block diagrams, simulations, analysis, schematics, layouts, bring‑up/test plans, and 8 Discipline (8D) reports.
- Work cross‑functionally with System Engineering, Mechanical/Electro‑Mechanical, Firmware/Software, and Test/Verification teams to define, design, and test PCBAs and resolve electrical system related issues.
- Support troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement of released PCBA designs.
- Document design concepts, architecture, block diagrams, bring‑up/test results, root‑cause investigations, and decision matrices.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with equivalent experience (battery or energy storage systems experience is a plus).
- Proficiency in PCBA design ECAD software (Altium or equivalent).
- Hands‑on experience with sensors, power electronics (high voltage, high power, AC, SMPS, LDO), processing (MCU, MPU, SOM), networking (Ethernet, CAN‑FD, isoSPI), on‑board communication (SPI, UART, I2C, JTAG), data acquisition (IO, ADC, DAC), and control systems (gate drivers, motor drivers, HSD).
- Strong understanding of safety and compliance considerations in high‑power and/or chemical environments.
- Demonstrated experience designing PCBAs and electrical systems to UL 991, 1973, 9540, 1998 requirements.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills, balancing speed, rigor, and safety.
- Familiarity with PLM (e.g., Arena or Team Center), product development software (e.g., JIRA), and requirement management tools (e.g., JAMA).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to work independently and cross‑functionally in a fast‑paced environment.
