Battery Management System (Bms) Controls Engineer
Form Energy is hiring a Battery Management System (BMS) Controls Engineer to develop & implement dynamical battery models and control & state estimation algorithms for the operation of our iron air stationary energy storage product. This role reports into our Controls & Systems Modeling team within the Engineering organization. You will contribute to the design and implementation of state machine logic, reduced order plant models, and core battery estimation & control algorithms in close collaboration with the Core Technology, Controls, and Software teams.

What You'll Do:- Implement and validate models in MATLAB/Simulink following model-based design best practices
- Own the architecture, implementation, and code generation of battery control algorithms in Simulink, and collaborate with software engineers for embedded deployment
- Lead system identification experiment design and execution in partnership with battery echem teams
- Define performance requirements and hardware interface specifications for the BMS algorithms
- Support integration of battery controls algorithms and plant models into a system-level digital twin in Simulink, in collaboration with the system modeling team
- Travel to support controls bring-up and testing on prototype testbeds (limited).
- 3+ years of experience in controls engineering or an advanced degree with relevant research experience
- Demonstrated experience with equivalent circuit or electrochemical battery models and state estimation algorithms (SOC, SOH, SOE)
- Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and Python for model development and data analysis
- Strong foundation in dynamical systems, control theory, model-based design, and electrochemical principles
- Strong intuition for battery physics, power electronics, and thermal dynamics
- Excellent technical communication and organizational skills
