Role summary
A contract Electrical CAD Designer is needed for an onsite, 1-year role in Berkeley, CA, supporting ALS-U engineering and manufacturing. The position involves creating detailed electrical designs, schematics, models, and documentation using CAD software like Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Electrical, or KiCad. Responsibilities include maintaining revision-controlled documentation in PLM/PDM systems (e.g., Windchill), generating bills of materials, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. A Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience, with a minimum of five years of professional experience in electrical CAD design, is required.
Experience with specific systems and complex scientific projects is also necessary.
FT Contractor
Pay Rate: $119 per hour
Target start 8/17/26 – 1 year contract
- · Create and maintain electrical models, wiring diagrams, schematics, and panel layouts using project-approved CAD software
- · Review and revise designs based on engineering feedback, design reviews, and approved engineering changes.
- · Maintain organized design files, libraries, and revision-controlled documentation within Windchill or other LBNL-designated systems.
- · Review and revise designs based on engineering feedback, design reviews, and approved engineering changes.
- · Generate bills of materials, wire and cable lists, and supporting documentation for manufacturing and assembly activities.
- · Provide support for manufacturing, assembly and/or installation activities.
- · Collaborate with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, project managers, and other designated project personnel to ensure that designs meet technical requirements and integrate with applicable product assemblies.
- · Participate in design coordination and design-review activities as requested by the Technical Representative.
- · Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- · Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience producing electrical CAD designs using Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Electrical, KiCad, or equivalent software
- · Demonstrated experience developing manufacturing-ready electrical documentation, including electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of materials, and wire or cable schedules.
- · Experience developing and maintaining revision-controlled engineering documentation within Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) or Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
- · Working knowledge of electrical engineering principles, electrical components, schematic development, and wiring practices.
- · Familiarity with applicable industry standards and codes relevant to electrical design activities.
- · Prior experience supporting laboratories, research facilities, particle accelerators, or other complex scientific or industrial engineering projects.
- · Proven experience using Autodesk Inventor for three-dimensional electrical or electromechanical design.
- · Experience integrating electrical and mechanical CAD models.
- · Prior experience using Windchill for engineering document and configuration management.
- · Experience supporting fabrication, assembly, installation, or commissioning complex engineered systems.
