The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics sponsors 30 varsity sports programs and serves more than 850 student‑athletes annually within the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Position SummaryAssociate Director, Technical Production supports the transformation of Cal athletic events into high‑quality entertainment experiences that drive fan engagement and brand loyalty. This role assists with in‑venue show execution, manages live production elements (scripting, music, video board), oversees sponsorship activations and halftime segments, and supervises and trains a student workforce to maintain a professional gameday operation aligned with Cal brand standards.
Responsibilities- Execute live show production for home athletic events, including video board content, show scripts, and cue coordination.
- Integrate marketing campaigns and sponsorship activations into live shows and on‑court/on‑field promotions.
- Supervise and train a student intern workforce, delivering daily guidance and gameday training.
- Identify and support new revenue streams for gamedays and other major events.
- Coordinate logistics with Facilities, Operations, and Spirit squads, serving as the primary production liaison.
- Assist with budgeting and tracking gameday entertainment expenses, evaluating fan engagement through feedback and data.
- Track expenses, gather fan feedback, and participate in post‑game reviews to identify technical or logistical improvements.
- Comprehensive knowledge of live, in‑venue production with multi‑camera audio, video, lighting, and talent.
- Experience with professional broadcast hardware, live‑show software, and fan‑engagement tools such as LED lighting and mobile app triggers.
- Ability to draft minute‑by‑minute show rundown with technical cues.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and mentorship skills for coaching lower‑level staff.
- Project and time‑management skills to prioritize and meet competing deadlines.
- Familiarity with NCAA regulations, NIL rules, and relevant athletic association standards.
- Understanding of budgeting and financial tracking to plan and adhere to an entertainment budget.
- Problem‑solving ability and flexibility to work effectively with frequent interruptions.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
The budgeted annual salary range for this position is $83,000 – $90,000. The role is exempt, monthly‑paid, and a full‑time (40 hours/week) career position eligible for UC benefits. Cal offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, retirement, and paid time off.
Driving RequirementA valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required.
