Departmental Overview
The University of California Botanical Garden (UCBG) features one of the most diverse plant collections in the United States.
Established in 1890, the Garden's 34 acres contain one of the most diverse collections of plants from all over the world arranged by region.
The Garden is famous for its large number of rare and endangered species.
The mission of the UCBG is to develop and maintain a diverse living collection of plants to support teaching and worldwide research in plant biology, further the conservation of plant diversity, and promote public understanding and appreciation of plants and the natural environment.
Position Summary
The UC Botanical Garden has a strong award-winning Rental Program that provides a critical revenue stream for the Garden through contracted private events held in specific Garden areas/facilities.
The Rental Monitor supports the execution of these events on the ground with various activities from set-up through to close-out.
Responsibilities
Event Oversight and Guest Experience (20%)
- Ensure that rental guests have an enjoyable time while observing the rental contract parameters and Garden rules for the duration of the event.
Coordination and Vendor Management (20%)
- Act as liaison as necessary with all parties involved including Garden staff, renter, event coordinator, and vendors.
- Manage and guide all deliveries for the event.
Event Setup (20%)
- Ensure the rental venue is set up according to the rental contract.
- This may include spot cleaning and setting up tables, chairs and signage for the event prior to the arrival of the renters.
Team Collaboration (15%)
- Work collaboratively with other rental staff on duty working in other areas.
- Use good communication by walkie talkie as needed.
Monitoring and Security (10%)
- Monitor the rental area and direct wandering rental guests back to rental area.
- Maintain the security of all areas of the Garden.
Event Close-Out (10%)
- At the conclusion of the event, provide a 1 hour warning to the rental contact.
- Stay within the vicinity to assure a timely exit.
- Check that the space has been cleaned and packed-out appropriately.
Post-Event Duties (5%)
- After the event, write observations and incidents in log.
- Perform required tear down and straightening up of facility and/or turn room around for the next event.
Required Qualifications
- Seasonal position with varied schedule: most work schedule weekend days and evenings with some weekday events.
- Dependability a must.
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills to be able to interact with diverse group of people.
