Athletic Trainer , Intercollegiate Athletics

Position Summary

The Athletic Trainer provides intercollegiate athletes with injury prevention training, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. The role applies professional theory to practice, performs fully independent responsibilities, analyzes problems of diverse scope, and determines solutions using seasoned skills and a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies.

• Applies professional concepts to deliver comprehensive, individualized, and effective training to optimize athletic performance, prevent injuries, and provide rehabilitation for chronic and acute conditions.
• Utilizes treatment plans that incorporate a full range of therapeutic modalities, devices, and rehabilitation techniques.
• Screen and refer injured athletes to the athletic team physician or other medical services.
• Participate in sport team travel.
• Provide moderate to complex rehabilitation of athletic injuries through therapeutic exercise programs.
• Maintain athletic training facilities and equipment, ensuring all equipment is fully operational and training rooms are maintained to standards.
• Report injuries, complete appropriate documentation, and maintain medical charts.
• Maintain discretion and confidentiality and handle sensitive matters involving athletic injuries and treatment.
• Enforce safety procedures.
• Work collaboratively to organize and prioritize work assignments and develop recommendations.
• Organize and prioritize work assignments and complete assignments within required timelines.
• Provide manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicine.
• Other duties, including professional development.

• Computer skills in programs relevant to job duties.
• Thorough skills associated with athletic injury prevention and the administration of therapeutic modalities, devices, and rehabilitation techniques, as well as first‑aid, athletic equipment, and injury assessment and treatment.
• Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive matters involving athletic injuries and treatments.
• Thorough knowledge of electronic medical records systems.
• For positions associated with Sports Medicine, maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the NCAA, the NAIA, and other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and at all times avoid violations of these rules and standards.
• Strong ability to work collaboratively with others, including athletes, team physicians, faculty, staff, and others in the athletic department.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of and/or ability to learn procurement function and campus budget requirements relating to athletic equipment and supplies.
• Strong ability to organize and prioritize work assignments and complete assignments within required timelines.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills needed to work with a diverse client group.
• Strong manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicine.

• Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience or training.

• Professional certification.
• In good standing with the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer.

• Master’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience or training.

• Annual salary range: $75,000.00 – $85,000.00. The full pay scale for this classification is $74,700.00 – $.
• Exempt, monthly‑paid position.
• Full‑time (40 hours per week) career position eligible for UC benefits.
