Responsibilities
- Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy and in the performance of other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with state and federal regulations and Company policies.
- Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
- If PTCB certified, assist and coach pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and guide cashiers with pharmacy cash registers.
- Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
- Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
- Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
- Model and share customer service best practices with all team members, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.
- Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers.
- Assist in the practice of pharmacy under the supervision of the pharmacist, in accordance with state, federal, and company policy.
- Review and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
- Perform duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, utilizing pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring correct entry, filling prescriptions, verifying medication accuracy, and checking for interactions.
- Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
- Report prescription errors to pharmacist on duty and adhere to Company policies and the Quality Improvement Program.
- Strictly adhere to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
- Register all related sales on the assigned cash register, collect and handle cash as required, and guide customers to the OTC aisle when possible.
- Handle telephone calls that do not require pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
- Process, correct, and resubmit manual claims for third‑party prescription services in a timely and efficient manner, and perform other clerical duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
- Assist and support Pharmacy Department on inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments of pharmaceuticals; maintain knowledge of asset protection techniques and file claims for overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods involving Rx drugs.
- Assist pharmacist in administering clinical services, including collecting and properly labeling blood/urine samples from patients, and coordinating clinical services, Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
- Assist Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining good relationships with local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other health care providers, through provider detailing and outreach to health groups, retirement homes, nursing homes, and other forums.
- Assist with exterior and interior maintenance by ensuring the Pharmacy Department is stocked with adequate supplies, clean, neat, and orderly in condition and appearance.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures; maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
- Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
- Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state required certification/registration. Alternatively, earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
- Attend training and complete PPLs requested by Manager and acquire continuing education credits.
- Maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest news and developments.
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Preferred six months of experience in a retail environment.
- Preferred prior work experience with Walgreens.
- Preferred good math skills for accurate prescription filling.
- Preferred good computer skills.
- Preferred knowledge of store inventory control.
- Preferred PTCB certification.
