Position: Valet Attendant – Residence Inn Berkeley $19.18/HR + Tips

SUMMARY

The Guest Service Associate is responsible for providing exceptional hospitality services to guests in an attentive, friendly and efficient manner. The role also involves parking and retrieving guest vehicles in a prompt yet safe manner and assisting guests with luggage, including delivery and pick up during arrival and departure.

COMPENSATION

Hourly base pay range: $19.18 per hour plus tips with a $3 shift differential based on overnight.

WORK SCHEDULE

The work schedule for this position is morning and evening shift, Monday through Sunday.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Maintains a pleasant, friendly, and professional demeanor with all guests, co‑workers, and clients (25%).
  • Uses a salutation of the day and welcomes guests to the location; practices proper Towne Park phone etiquette (10%).
  • Parks and retrieves vehicles while driving slowly and cautiously; assists guests with bell services and luggage storage as needed; opens all vehicle and hotel doors for guests (20%).
  • Assists guests with directions, taxis, reservations, and other inquiries; provides information about outlets, meeting rooms, and amenities of the facility as well as main attractions in the area; delivers messages, items, and/or guest amenities as requested; shuttles guests to approved locations (10%).
  • Explains parking rates and retrieval procedures to guests upon arrival; issues claim checks only after receiving vehicle keys and collects claim checks from all guests prior to issuing keys; consistently completes and maintains all ticket information including key tag, guest folio, vehicle location, damage survey, and claim check receipt; calculates and collects revenue for vehicles when needed (35%).
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Licensure, Certification, etc.: Must hold a valid driver’s license for the state you are applying to work, or within a commutable distance from the state you are applying to work (as applicable).
  • Work Experience: One (1) month related experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge: Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
  • Skills: Ability to read and write standard English language; read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to guests, clients, and other employees of the organization; add and subtract three‑digit numbers and multiply and divide with tens and hundreds; use units of American money; understand 24‑hour and military time systems;

    understand rates applicable to time passed; operate a manual transmission is highly desirable; perform parallel parking.
SCOPE & AUTHORITIES

The job is fairly routine. The incumbent follows established practices and procedures; duties are performed with specific directions and work is checked or verified frequently. Decisions are made within specific operational instructions and departmental guidelines. Errors in judgment could affect the smooth and efficient operation of the department.

  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Lifting up to 100pounds occasionally, up to 50pounds frequently, or up to 20pounds constantly to move objects.
