UC Berkeley, via the College of Environmental Design (CED), seeks an Executive Director for the Abbey Master of Real Estate Development + Design (MRED+D) program. The role oversees academic vision, program strategy, industry engagement, and operations. The position opens on 2/17/26 and remains open until filled.

The Institute of Urban & Regional DevelopmentIURD is an interdisciplinary unit focused on climate‑change justice, advancing knowledge and capacity for carbon reductions and climate adaptation through equitable strategies. It offers the MRED+D program and other graduate initiatives.
Executive Director RoleThe Executive Director leads strategic academic direction, curriculum planning, admissions, external relations, and program administration for MRED+D.
Responsibilities- 40% Academic Programming
- Design and develop program vision, mission, and curricular components.
- Assess program effectiveness, enrollment, student satisfaction, and alumni outcomes.
- Recruit and propose faculty, coordinate capstone activities, and host co‑curricular events.
- Collaborate with CED departments and campus units to manage program requirements.
- Implement instruction and research projects aligned with faculty interests.
- 30% External & Industry Relations
- Build and expand partnerships with industry, alumni, and professional organizations.
- Lead lecture series, public relations, and maintain visible program presence at conferences.
- Identify and secure external gifts and fundraising opportunities.
- Represent the program to Graduate Division, the College, outside agencies, and the public.
- 15% Operations & Administration
- Plan and assess program budget, HR, and supporting resources.
- Develop strategic planning for financing and ensuring program sustainability.
- Establish program brand and marketing.
- 15% Admissions & Recruiting
- Conduct outreach to attract outstanding applicants.
- Participate in admissions review, evaluation, and fellowship awards.
- Recognized expertise in real estate and design.
- Academic experience in both real estate and design.
- Strategic thinking and visionary leadership.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and entrepreneurial skills.
- Excellent communication, writing, and presentation abilities.
- Expert interpersonal skills for collaboration with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
- Experience building academia‑industry collaborations.
- Minimum ten years of leadership experience in real estate or design with creative contributions.
- Master's degree or equivalent international degree.
- Advanced degrees in both real estate (e.g., MRED, MBA) and an environmental design field (e.g., MArch, MCP, MLA, MUD).
- Minimum ten years of leadership experience in real estate or design with creative contributions.
