Summer Sessions, Study Abroad, Lifelong Learning & University Extension (SSALLEX) is the extended education division of the University of California, Berkeley, and an essential part of the University's mission to extend the research and scholarship of UC Berkeley to a global community. SSALLEX is a vibrant and dynamic organization that enables more than 60,000 visiting, UC and potential Cal students, parents, faculty, academic units, international business partners, and central campus service providers to participate in providing more than 2,000 summer courses, fall freshman programs, study abroad experiences, global internships, and year‑round programs or courses, lectures, special events and interest circles for older adults.
PositionSummary
The Financial Analysis Supervisor 2 leads and supervises the financial services, planning, and analysis function for UC Berkeley Extension to support excellent financial processes and data‑driven decision‑making. This position leads the development of budgets and forecasts and provides expert analytical and financial reporting support to senior leadership and academic and administrative directors. The Supervisor develops complex financial models for proposed academic programs, including programs conducted in partnership with campus academic departments.
In addition, this position directs the team and organization to deliver high levels of employee engagement, including work satisfaction, performance, contributions, and commitments to the organization.
- Supervise activities associated with creating, maintaining, and reporting on the operational budgets and budget processes, academic and staff budgeted FTE, financial planning (including problem definition, forecasting, data collection, development of alternative solutions), human resources FTE planning (position management, staffing forecasting, data collection), development of policy or action recommendations in the areas of budget, finance and human resource planning, and report preparation.
- Supervise activities related to quarterly forecasts, multi‑year projections, monthly close and fiscal close processes, instructor payroll, billing, and A/R functions.
- Lead and supervise efforts to consolidate information from managers and other sources to develop department‑wide budgets and forecasts.
- Oversee and perform all supervisory responsibilities, including recruitment, training and coaching, employee development, conflict resolution, and performance management.
- Assess staff training needs in areas such as sound financial practices and business and financial systems.
- Develop or supervise the development of financial models for proposed academic programs, including programs with campus partners.
- Lead or develop financial analysis, including breakeven, scenario, and sensitivity analysis.
- Make recommendations regarding the financial value and viability of proposals.
- Work directly with CFO/CAO‑level staff to manage program finances for partnerships with campus units, such as Global Access Programs and Concurrent Enrollment.
- Lead or supervise the development and implementation of processes for financial execution, tracking, and reporting of such programs using assumptions in MOUs, agreements, and pro forma.
