Responsibilities
- Manages a moderately complex, multi-channel fundraising program encompassing the full spectrum of development activities, including leadership giving, annual giving, donor engagement, signature events, volunteer coordination, donor stewardship, and recognition programs.
- In partnership with leadership conceives, creates, and leads the development of comprehensive fundraising strategies designed to achieve predetermined goals; implements and manages these strategies across multiple channels; adjusts tactics to optimize results.
- Manages and oversees a team of development professionals and administrative support staff, establishing clear roles, expectations, and performance standards while fostering collaboration.
- Recruits, selects, trains, mentors, and provides ongoing professional development for staff; provides clear direction and leadership, conducts performance evaluations, offers feedback, and implements corrective actions.
- Participates in long- and short-range strategic planning.
- Oversees and manages the identification, cultivation and solicitation of donors and donor prospects throughout California and nationwide; may travel with donors to home/away football, men’s basketball, and select post‑season events.
- Other duties including professional development.
- Strong knowledge of leadership/management concepts, procedures, techniques, and best practices.
- Proven success in managing, mentoring, motivating, and retaining a professional fundraising staff.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and political acumen.
- Excellent skills in meeting predetermined goals and objectives.
- Effective strategic planning, critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving, persuasion/negotiation, communication, and marketing skills.
- Strong knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor and public relations, applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies.
- Excellent knowledge of the campus and higher‑education issues.
- Experience as a manager in fundraising; marketing, communications, or public relations desirable.
- Proven record of accomplishment that demonstrates initiative, creativity, managerial and interpersonal skills, preferably in a university setting.
- Willingness to take risks and solve problems creatively.
- Well‑developed leadership skills with ability to articulate the university’s vision and programs to donors, volunteers, and staff.
- Ability to make a compelling case for supporting the priorities of the Athletic Department in a complex environment.
- Familiarity with intercollegiate athletics culture and environment.
- Knowledge of benefit‑linked giving, athletics, and university development.
- Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, database tools).
- Must be able to travel and work nights and weekends as required.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable rules (ACC, NCAA, etc.) and avoid violations.
The budgeted salary range is $ – $ (full‑time, 40 hrs/week). The position is exempt monthly‑paid and eligible for UC Benefits.
