Position Overview:
This role serves as the Assistant Athletics Director, Development of the Cal Athletics Fund and works closely with the Development Leadership Team to support the implementation of fundraising strategies and goals for the department. The position is responsible for leadership/major giving, directly supervising a team of Leadership Giving Officers, and managing a portfolio of donor prospects to achieve fundraising objectives.

- Serve as a lead development professional in leadership/major gifts, working with donor prospects capable of very significant contributions.
- Cooperate with the Development Leadership Team to conceive, create, develop, implement, evaluate, and oversee fundraising programs and strategies to meet predetermined goals and objectives.
- Develop individualized plans and strategies for cultivating and soliciting major gifts.
- Manage a portfolio of 100–125 major gift donor prospects, each with a capacity of $100,000 or more.
- Make 10–15 substantive contacts per month, qualify major gift prospects, and solicit gifts directly.
- Present formal fundraising proposals to major donors and prepare senior management to present proposals.
- Travel to visit donors as required.
- Design and implement highly specialized program activities and serve as a resource for leadership giving.
- Provide leadership to achieve the goals of the unit through direction and support.
- Manage and oversee a team of Leadership Giving Officers, establishing clear expectations and performance standards while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including professional development.
- Strong working knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
- At least 3 years of experience as a manager in the field of fundraising; experience in marketing, communications, and public relations is also desirable.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and critical‑thinking skills.
- Expert project‑management skills, including the ability to set and meet project goals and objectives within budget and time constraints.
- Expert ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Strong knowledge of all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and institutional policies.
- Expert written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including advanced political acumen to establish and maintain good working relationships at all organizational levels and with outside constituencies.
- Strong skill in making persuasive and compelling presentations to secure gifts.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and database tools.
- Must be able to travel and work nights and weekends as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
The budgeted salary range for this position is $ – $. This range reflects the qualifications, skills, knowledge, and experience of the individual who will fill the position.
- This is a full‑time (40 hours per week) career position that is eligible for University of California benefits.
- This is an exempt, monthly‑paid position.
