Bay Area Community Land Trust (BACLT) is seeking a full-time Director of Stewardship & Asset Management to join our staff team based in Berkeley, CA. The ideal candidate will resonate with BACLT's mission, vision and values, and be committed to furthering BACLT's work to create and support affordable, resident-focused communities.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Director of Stewardship & Asset Management (DSAM) is responsible for the development and implementation of asset management strategies to ensure that BACLT's properties achieve their best financial and physical condition, as well as ensure that all Local, State, and Federal agency regulation requirements are met. The DSAM is hired by and reports to the Organizational Director, and works closely with the BACLT collaborative team of staff and board committees.

The DSAM will also work collaboratively with the Organizational Director and Project Committee to assess potential new project acquisitions and bring those projects into the Land Trust portfolio. BACLT seeks an individual who will bring skills, enthusiasm, and readiness to grow into a leadership role in some of the following essential shared areas of work:

Property Asset Management (~40%)
  • Ensure the financial and physical health of all properties in the BACLT portfolio, in collaboration with the Organizational Director and other staff and technical experts
  • Create & manage annual property operating budgets
  • Ensure management of monthly rent rolls until residents are self-managing their own rent rolls
  • Ensure management of income and expenses until residents are self-managing their properties
  • Ensure process for advertising and filling vacancies as needed
  • Establish long-term capital needs plans and preventative maintenance plans
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory guidelines at all times
  • Enforce lease and regulatory requirements as necessary (e.g., late rent, income certifications).
  • Review portfolio performance, identify under-performing issues and work collaboratively with residents and staff to identify solutions
  • Provide direct support and supervision to the Operations Manager, including regular evaluations.
Financial Management and Business Planning (~20%)
  • In collaboration with the Organizational Director:
  • Develop & manage an Asset Management Business Plan
  • Ensure the overall financial health of the organization and its properties by overseeing all financial management on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis, to ensure that the organization remains in good financial standing and troubleshoot financial challenges before they impact the financial health of the organization or properties
  • Support the development of the organization’s annual operating budget
  • Work with the bookkeeping team to ensure timely quarterly financial reports and annual financial reporting are delivered to the Board and at the annual membership meeting
  • Ensure all program and financial records are maintained for proper auditing according to BACLT policies
  • Manage Financial & Compliance Reporting for all properties
  • Work collaboratively with the Board Finance & Oversight Committee and Treasurer to ensure that BACLT’s Finance Policy Manual is kept up to date and implemented
General Administration (~20%)
  • Maintain asset management database and documentation systems
  • Contribute to organizational visioning, planning, and system management improvements
  • Collaborate with Organizational Director in hiring, personnel decisions, HR policy development, organizational systems development, and board & staff development efforts
  • Support development and administration of procedures and policies to strengthen internal systems for personal and organizational sustainability
  • Attend staff and Board committee meetings for collaborative input and cross-training
  • Attend training and education classes to maintain current knowledge on Asset Management best practices through industry training sessions and annual conferences, as needed.
Co-op Conversions, New Project Development & Support (~5%)
