Overview
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student‑athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association.
Position SummaryThe Director, Creative Video – Football is a key member of the Athletics Department's Strawberry Canyon Studios. The role leads the conceptualization and execution of high‑impact visual assets that elevate Cal Football's brand, define the Cal identity across various sports, and amplify Cal's brand narrative consistent with external strategy. The Director captures the energy of live sporting events, produces access‑driven content, and develops personalized digital content tailored for recruiting and retention of student‑athletes and staff and to promote external revenue generation.
This fast‑paced, solution‑oriented position works independently, pitches high‑level storytelling concepts to leadership, and is responsible for bespoke execution on tight timelines. The role manages a team of full‑time staff and recruits, builds and supervises a consistent workforce of students and interns, and mentors them in professional‑level storytelling to maintain a consistent brand story across Athletics.

- Work independently and proactively to pitch high‑level storytelling concepts to Cal Athletics leadership.
- Develop content calendars that align with specific recruiting cycles, retention goals, and revenue‑generation windows.
- Lead the end‑to‑end execution of visual assets, including photography, graphics, and visual design.
- Capture the energy of live events and produce behind‑the‑scenes features that define the Cal brand identity for social platforms and in‑venue video boards.
- Develop personalized digital content and templates specifically tailored to attract elite recruits, brands, and enhance the student‑athlete experience.
- Ensure a consistent brand narrative that aids in player acquisition and internal program loyalty.
- Develop AI‑generated personalized digital content that aligns to brand standards and templates tailored to attract elite brands and elevate the Cal Athletics brand.
- Enable traditional and new revenue streams and build fan loyalty.
- Leverage emerging technologies, such as Generative AI and advanced editing tools, to achieve speed and scale in content production.
- Maintain University brand guidelines while modernizing studio workflow for faster digital turnaround.
- Manage content creation budgets, track expenses, and evaluate content effectiveness via feedback and data to improve future work.
