Departmental Overview

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student‑athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).

Position Summary

The Strawberry Creek Studios Coordinator is a critical member of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the new unit tasked with content creation, digital and strategic communications, storytelling and gameday production. This position provides end‑to‑end, event‑specific support for gameday production, strategic communications and content creation. The Coordinator serves as a central coordinator for event‑specific communications, marketing and content production needs, helping ensure those events are executed efficiently and on schedule.

The role supports a variety of strategic initiatives and serves as a key resource for all staff across Strawberry Creek Studios. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and a collaborative approach to working across departments. The Coordinator is critical to ensuring Strawberry Creek Studios efforts and events are run efficiently and that fans, donors, staff, and alumni are provided a positive experience when interacting with Cal Athletics.

Responsibilities
  • Provides operational, planning, organizing and administrative support for the events associated with Strawberry Creek Studios.
  • Supports strategic communications with planning, organizing and the execution of sporting events through a communications lens.
  • Assists with credentialing processes for attendees, event‑day logistics, will‑call operations.
  • Coordinates marketing and content scheduled and planned events—calendars and campaign timelines.
  • Tracks deliverables, approvals and deadlines.
  • Assists with activation of brand and community partnerships.
  • Supports gameday, event and production operations.
  • Coordinates public address announcers, statistical crews and other event personnel as assigned.
  • Assists with equipment inventory management and delivery, parking pass distribution, content distribution and selected event operations support.
  • Maintains digital assets and departmental resources, including staff directories, historical and informational web pages, media central resources and other communications platforms.
  • Assists with reporting metrics and process improvement initiatives that support departmental efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Coordinates office operations and support the Strawberry Creek Studios operation.
  • Works with a wide range of people to include athletics staff, student‑athletes, University personnel and the leadership members.
  • Other duties as assigned, including professional development.
Required Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge in administrative procedures and processes including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multi‑task and time‑management skills.
  • Interpersonal and work leadership skills to provide guidance to other nonexempt personnel.
  • Good judgment in making decisions and managing events.
  • Skill in meeting budget and time constraints.
  • Knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of event planning and public relations, including event design, organization and production.
  • Highly developed interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and social perceptiveness.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with diverse populations with competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to work on several tasks simultaneously.
  • Skill at responding effectively to priorities and setting deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of collegiate athletics and an understanding of the role of communications, marketing and storytelling within an athletics department.
