Kauri Coast, New Zealand. Duration:
Minimum 8 weeks.

Cost: $2,900 USD for the first two weeks + $330 for each week thereafter. Fee includes all food, accommodation, pre‑departure and in‑country support, orientation and all project related activities. Does not include flights, travel insurance, personal spending, visas and vaccinations.

This internship is with a non‑profit organization located in the cloud‑forest of Tutamoe Peak in Northland, New Zealand, working with the Department of Conservation to protect and monitor endangered species.

• Learn leadership and management skills and lead a team of volunteers.
• Learn how to set up and manage a not‑for‑profit organization.
• Participate in hands‑on conservation work in different forests.
• See endangered species in the wild and explore areas closed to the general public.
• Learn about sustainability and living off‑grid.
• Engage in self‑discovery through immersion in a remote forest setting.
• Visit attractions of the Kauri Coast, including lakes and a 2,000‑year‑old tree.

• Receive extra training and mentoring to develop skills to lead a small team of volunteers.
• Plan and coordinate activities, including preparation, new volunteer training, and safety procedures.
• Assist with building access trails, protecting native species from invasive pests, planting native trees, and monitoring pest numbers.
• Support the project’s goals to restore protected natural ecosystems and create an enduring experience for all involved.
• Learn and apply basics of setting up a similar not‑for‑profit organization from design to accounting and marketing strategies.
