Director – Program Nursing – CA

Key Functions & Responsibilities

• Provide clinical supervision of and direct all nursing staff and services across the state of California and within respective residential homes or other programs.
• Collaborate with HR to develop recruitment plans, participate in selection, hiring, and orientation of nursing staff.
• Mentor, counsel, and guide RNs across the region; conduct regular supervisions and manage overall performance and discipline.
• Monitor scope of practice, ensure required trainings (YAI CA Preservice, Emergency Intervention Procedures, New Nursing Orientation, DDS Workshops, Regional Center Trainings) are completed.
• Provide coverage and perform all duties of a Registered Nurse, including direct nursing care in the absence of nursing staff.
• Attend trainings and forums to stay informed of updated codes, regulations, and protocols from DDS, CCL, CRA, and Regional Centers.
• Analyze and interpret regulations, federal, state, and local standards, and collaborate with Quality, Compliance, and Regional Director to develop compliant systems and forms.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies, including HIPAA, and cooperate during inspections, inquiries, or investigations.
• Design, organize, and implement OSHA regulations; coordinate training needs and scheduling with the Regional Director.
• Lead or participate in regional and departmental committees (Incident Review Committee, Human Rights Committee, Informed Consent Committee, Clinical Rounds, Referrals, Agency Director Meetings).
• Evaluate and monitor RN department needs, advocate for resources, and revise nursing services as needed.
• Ensure medication administration is implemented and audited in accordance with agency, DDS, CCL, Regional Center, or other relevant regulations; track medication errors and address trends.
• Organize, conduct, and document regional RN medical meetings; develop agendas, secure trainers, and maintain monthly training schedules.
• Coordinate with Clinical Director and Regional Director for administrative guidance on medical needs and interpretation of Title 17 and/or 22 guidelines.
• Monitor nursing services across programs, reviewing and auditing to ensure compliance with regulatory and medical requirements.
• Maintain and update trainings, policies, procedures, and forms with California leadership; ensure nursing staff use current forms and documentation.
• Collect data, identify deficiencies, risks, or concerns; recommend corrective measures and coordinate implementation with leadership.
• Liaise with pharmacies used across the state of California.
• Oversee the residential nursing on‑call system to ensure RN availability 24/7 per DDD, CCL, and Regional Centers guidelines.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

$155,000 to $165,000

• Current active license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California Board of Registered Nursing.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.
• Five or more years of nursing experience, including at least three years working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD).
• At least two years of supervisory/administrative experience in a clinical setting.
• Ability to respond to calls and work beyond regular hours, including on‑call duties.
• Ability to travel across the state of California to provide nursing coverage or other supports.
• Hold (or obtain through employer‑provided training) Ukeru and CPI certifications and recertify annually.
• Basic computer skills, including email and use of Workday and related systems (DA, Behavior Agent, etc.).
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

• Bachelor or Master of Science in Nursing degree.
• Five or more years of experience in the I/DD field.
• Two or more years as a Nurse Manager in the State of California.
• Valid Driver's License.
