- Plant identification, vegetation data collection, photographic monitoring, preparation and demobilization of field efforts, and data entry.
- Experience in wetland delineation and/or vegetation mapping/classification is a plus.
- This is an on-call temporary position. Field efforts are variable in hours, from a few hours per week to potentially up to 50 hours per week starting in late April or early May and likely extending into August.
- Additional office-based work (reporting, data analysis) may be available for candidates with applicable experience.
- Have earned or be in the process of earning a BS or BA in botany or a related field.
- Excellent plant identification skills (plant taxonomy or equivalent course; knowledge of local flora; familiarity with Jepson eFlora and/or Jepson Manual to identify specimens).
- Prior field experience.
- Team oriented; ability to work collaboratively and independently as needed.
- Willingness to travel and work in remote locations (lodging provided) for 5–6 days maximum.
- Good attitude and ability to traverse difficult terrain including steep slopes, muddy wetlands with standing water, and dense brush. Endurance to work long days in all types of weather.
- Competency to follow directions and field safety protocols.
- Attention to detail and commitment to sound science.
- Solid navigational skills using maps and GPS.
- Ability to move equipment of 25 pounds or more.
- A valid driver’s license and good driving record; ability to use personal vehicle to travel to field sites (reimbursable).
- Hourly rate: $24–$32 depending on qualifications or experience.
- Temporary on-call positions based out of Berkeley for fieldwork throughout Northern California.
