About Glyphic:
At Glyphic Biotechnologies, we plan to create the protein revolution for which scientists and researchers have been waiting. We are developing a massively parallel, single-molecule proteome sequencing platform that will transform life science discovery and usher in a new era of insights into human biology and disease. To date, we have raised >$80M from venture partners and non-dilutive grant funding to achieve our vision of next generation proteome sequencing.
Whatwe are looking for in you
We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Assay Development Scientist to design and perform experiments that enable the next generation of sensitive, accurate, and scalable single‑molecule protein sequencing. Reporting to the Director of Assay Development, you will leverage your molecular biology expertise in a cross‑functional environment at the interface of molecular biology, chemistry, bioinformatics, and automation. The ideal candidate thrives at the bench in a dynamic research team and contributes to intellectually stimulating and highly collaborative projects.
This is a full‑time, exempt, in‑person position with work conducted at our Berkeley, CA location.
- Design, plan, and execute experiments to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of Glyphic’s protein sequencing by expansion (ProSE) process
- Propose, design, and test novel analytical approaches to optimize and build predictive understanding of critical components of the ProSE sequencing process including sample preparation, molecular expansion chemistry, automation, and the integration of these components into a robust end‑to‑end assay
- Proactively identify, communicate, and help address experimental risks or resource gaps, such as reagent supply or instrument issues
- Collaborate with scientists on the Assay Development team to ensure successful delivery of team goals and prioritize experiments accordingly
- Collaborate with scientists in Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Process Development, and Engineering teams to assist and contribute to cross‑functional projects
- Collect, manage, and analyze data from molecular biology and protein sequencing experiments
- Keep a detailed electronic lab notebook on Confluence
- Communicate and present results in a timely manner
- Post‑graduate experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry or related fields, including a:
- BS/MS/PhD with 10+/8+/6+ years (for Staff Scientist)
- BS/MS/PhD with 8+/6+/4+ years (for Senior Scientist)
- Experience designing, developing and troubleshooting protocols for highly sensitive molecular assays (PCR‑free sequencing, single cell assays, NULISA) with evidence of ownership and innovation.
- Comprehensive understanding of molecular biology tools used for high sensitivity applications including ligation, polymerase extension and repair, qPCR, NGS barcoding and library preparation, capillary electrophoresis, and surface capture of nucleic acids and peptides enabling root‑cause diagnosis and assay optimization
- Strong foundation in nucleic acid and peptide biochemistry including the ability to identify common sources of biochemical damage (such as oxidation, depurination, hydrolysis) and methods to avoid or mitigate these effects
- Detail‑oriented, organized, and able to keep accurate lab records
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Motivated, enthusiastic, and proactive individual
- Experience with chemical functionalization of biomolecules or surfaces (e.g. EDC, NHS, Click)
- Experience with data analysis using Graph Pad Prism, Excel, and/or similar programs
- Experience with bead‑based automation on instruments such as King Fisher or Hamilton
- Familiarity with HPLC for biomolecule purification and validation is a plus
- Familiarity with emerging trends and techniques in proteomic measurements is a plus
- Excellent interpersonal skills – capable of building strong relationships and communicating effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- High emotional and analytical intelligence – able to navigate complex team dynamics, partnerships, and challenges with creativity…
