The incumbent will utilize and develop algorithms, computational techniques, and statistical methodologies. The role assists IGI scientists at all levels in the design of new experiments, implements end‑user database searching and integration, maintains computational pipelines, tracks the flow of information for large‑scale studies, and provides web‑based bioinformatics and access to public and proprietary databases.
Responsibilities- Develop new algorithms and bioinformatics processing pipelines for analysis of high‑throughput sequencing data from genome editing experiments.
- Create processing pipelines to scale to massive dataset sizes.
- Develop bioinformatics methods broadly applicable to data from different genome editing modalities and sequencing platforms, including base editing, prime editing, homology‑directed repair strategies, long and short read sequencing.
- Create open‑source bioinformatics software deployable across heterogeneous computing systems and support its dissemination.
- Guide institute members in selecting appropriate bioinformatics analyses.
- Assist the group with analysis methods for various data types, choosing pipelines that leverage compute infrastructure while maintaining data integrity.
- Apply advanced statistical knowledge to analyze genome editing experiments, incorporating wet‑lab and field protocols that impact downstream bioinformatics methods.
- Train staff, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers in direct bioinformatics programming development.
- Communicate and train group members, including primarily biologists with varying computational expertise.
- Conduct independent and group research aiming at novel biological discoveries.
- Develop methods that integrate biological and computational knowledge to identify optimal editing strategies for pathogenic mutation correction and improve new genome editing tools.
- Integrate data from large‑scale screening campaigns and heterogeneous data types.
- Use modern data science tools to integrate large sequencing datasets with heterogeneous data types.
- Author manuscripts, oral and poster presentations at research conferences.
- Create high‑quality graphics and figures from complex scientific data.
- Collaborate with other group members and external partners for publications and presentations.
- Develop strategies for integrating data from diverse experimental systems to identify optimal editing strategies for pathogenic mutation correction.
- Develop computational approaches for evaluating potential off‑target effects of genome editing strategies.
- Implement strategies with executive personnel for computational bioinformatics programs across large research groups; define strategic goals for pipelines at IGI and partner institutions.
- Manage data access and priorities for the group and international collaborators.
- Verify quality, standardization, provenance of new data.
- Monitor large amounts of constantly generated novel sequencing data.
- Ensure new data is processed in a standardized, usable way for the whole group.
- Implement practices ensuring all incoming data conforms to robust quality control.
- Process new data for a large multi‑user group with varying technical training, ensuring compatibility with current analysis infrastructure.
- Participate in proposal development, strategy, charting and drafting sub‑units requiring substantial computational components.
- Lead a team of bioinformatics programming professionals, overseeing lower‑level programmers.
- Responsible for project budgets and financial reporting for major CRISPR Cures programs.
- Expert knowledge of bioinformatics methods, application programming, web development, and data structures.
- Expert understanding of relational databases, web interfaces, and operating systems.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Expert knowledge of modern biology and the therapeutic research field.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills for communicating with technical and non‑technical personnel at all levels, including campus, departmental, and…
