Position Overview
Postdoctoral Scholar – The Building Blocks of Cognition Laboratory – Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley. Salary range: $64,480-$71,908. Percent time: 100%. Anticipated start:
August 1, 2024. Position duration: 2‑year appointment with possibility of renewal. Application window:

Project:
National Institute of Mental Health study titled “Narrowing the mechanistic gap for anterior prefrontal cortex function,” focusing on the lateral aspect of anterior PFC. The lab employs behavioral, brain‑imaging, and eye‑tracking methods. The postdoc will contribute to fMRI, structural MRI, and diffusion‑weighted imaging on 3 T and 7 T scanners.
- Assist with finalizing study design and task presentation code, oversee piloting and data collection, and set up behavioral and fMRI preprocessing and analysis pipelines.
- Take the lead on writing and revising manuscripts, and present results locally and at conferences.
- Provide mentorship to the graduate student researcher and full‑time research assistant, as well as other lab members.
- Maintain expertise in structural and functional MRI data collection and analysis.
Basic qualifications (required at time of application): PhD or equivalent international degree, or enrollment in a PhD program.
Additional qualifications (required at time of start): PhD or equivalent international degree; no more than three years of post‑PhD research experience.
Preferred qualifications:
- Ph.D. or equivalent international degree in Neuroscience or Psychology.
- Established publication record in human cognitive neuroscience.
- Experience with fMRI data collection and up‑to‑date analysis methods.
- Programming experience, ideally Python.
- Ability to carry out statistical analyses, ideally in Python or R.
- Ability to write up results for publication in a timely manner.
- Strong initiative, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with open science data practices (preregistration on OSF; code sharing on Git Hub).
- Experience with layer fMRI is a bonus.
